Note, I'm not talking about anyone on this particular board nor probably any that anyone has heard of. But I'm interested in closing the member accounts of certain other members on a board I post on who have been especially insulting and abusive and whom the moderators/administrators will do nothing about.

Afraid my personal computer skills are somewhat limited.

Not without administrator rights. But I suppose that a hacker whiz could. What's the site? Maybe some of us could register there. Allies might be beneficial.

Most forums have an ignore feature. Is that what you mean?

I don't know if that would be appropriate. One of their members did come over here just to harass me last year or so but none others have persisted in it. So I'm reluctant to mingle the two sites. Thanks for the offer though.

It has an ignore feature but that is not what I meant. And if the person you are ignoring is an extremely active member it can mean that threads you wish to read end up with massive holes in their content.

Don't go to that board anymore. If you don't like how you are treated on a board, and have expressed that to the moderators, just leave and don't log on to it anymore. I've quit boards before because I felt mods were unfair.

Tradition and sentimentality. I've been posting there for 15 years. Also I have an online Diary thread there that I've been keeping up with for all that time.

Then just grin and bear it. If the mods aren't going to do anything, there is nothing legal that can be done.

FYI, doing something like what Injeun suggested there could get you banned from this site.
And you were right not to mention the name of the other site btw.
As perdi mentioned, your best bet is likely going to be to either leave the site,
or just accept things the way they are.

If you do decide to leave it, you might want to look into ways of backing up your diary thread content somewhere else.
Although I assume the content would still be there for retrieval if you left. But I know some of these sites get shut down on occasion and the data lost.

Some forums act as though posters are their property.

I was active on another board for years. I was recently retired and it filled the void very nicely. I made friends with some of the folks - some I keep in touch with, even after 10 years. It's HARD to cut that tie, @Dayton3 , I can understand your feelings on the matter.

Maybe, all is not lost. OP, have you considered reaching out to the posters that you like and invite them to email you directly? Some of my closest friends were anonymous posters on various forums. It doesn't hurt to ask and you would not be under the constraints of any forum rules.
