Trump said on Wednesday evening he “accepts” a US intelligence assessment that Russia continues to target the United States, capping a day of twists in his belief of his own officials.

Asked by CBS whether he agrees with Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats’ assessment that Russia continues to post a threat, Trump said “I'd accept that. He's an expert. This is what he does. He's been doing a very good job. I have tremendous faith in Dan Coats. He has excellent people in the agencies."

“When they tell me something, it means a lot,” he said.

Trump lied. That is not what he said.

Trump went on to say he holds his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin personally responsible for Moscow's attempts to interfere in the 2016 US election.
In an interview with CBS News anchor Jeff Glor, Trump said Putin was culpable as Russia's leader. "I would because he’s in charge of the country just like I consider myself to be responsible for things that happen in this country," Trump said. "So certainly as the leader of the country you would have to hold him responsible."

Trump lied again. That is not what he said.

At the news conference on Monday while facing Putin Trump said, "My people came to me, Dan Coats came to me, some others, they said they think it's Russia. I have President Putin. He just said it's not Russia. I will say this, I don't see any reason why it would be. I have great confidence in my intelligence people, but I will tell you that President Putin was extremely strong and powerful in his denial."

In addition to his other faults, Trump is coward. It is one thing to appear on television in Washington facing one pathetic reporter who was afraid to ask about the elephant in the room and quite another to face a bevy of savvy reporters and Putin in his backyard and tell the Russian dictator he holds him personally responsible for Moscow's attempts to interfere in the 2016 US election.

Trump is a Russian sympathizer. His base remains solidly in support of him. Trump can do no wrong.

Logically, it follows his base consists of Russian sympathizers as well.

A quarter of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents (25%) said they had a favorable view of Putin, compared with just 9% of Democrats and Democratic leaners.

Trump is losing it. Clearly, he is in over his head, and he has lost the ability to perform his duties as President. Of course, many would argue he never was qualified to handle the duties as President. His foreign policy is in shambles as he holds to his views while his advisors, the Pentagon, and the members of his own party in Congress hold completely opposite views, particularly when it comes to Russia.

Now he expects us to believe three days later what he claims he said to Putin during the two hour secret meeting he requested. There are no records of this meeting -- which is the way Trump wanted it -- so that now he can say whatever he wants about the meeting.

What makes this so incredible is that he really believes Americans will fall for the obvious deception.

It only gets worse. Remember I said he was losing it.

“I don't know what the fuss is all about. I think we did extremely well. It's fake news,” Trump said.

He criticized the lack of coverage of his one-on-one meeting with Putin, which contained no aides and hasn’t been formally read-out by any US officials.

“They didn't cover my meeting, the important thing frankly was the meeting that lasted for two and a half hours or almost two and a half hours, and in that meeting, we discussed many, many things that were very, very positive for both countries,” Trump said.

Trump forgot -- at his request -- there are no records of that meeting. Trump is fake news.

The decisions and policies of our Congress and President must be based on truth and facts. Anything else (opinion, emotion, prejudice, belief) without truth and facts can lead to horrible mistakes. We are cursed by our current political and social environment. Who and what can we trust to be honest and accurate? Unfortunately, at this point I assume that Trump is wrong, exaggerating or lying until proven otherwise, and I am having difficulty with all politicians and most news sources.

Honesty, truth and facts require strength of character, dedication, a love of truth, a willingness to find out that you were wrong and accept criticism and responsibility. (This sentence sounds like a sermon.) Anyway, we need to find politicians that are Americans and care about America, not their party or their donors or their career. America needs honesty and truth.

A shameful timeline. Remember, we are talking about the American President here.

Monday, 11:50 a.m. ET: During Monday's news conference, Trump sided with Putin over US intelligence, saying, "My people came to me -- Dan Coats came to me and some others -- they said they think it’s Russia. I have President Putin; he just said it’s not Russia. I will say this: I don’t see any reason why it would be." Moments later, he added, "I have great confidence in my intelligence people, but I will tell you that President Putin was extremely strong and powerful in his denial today."

Monday, 3:40 p.m. ET: Trump tweeted, "As I said today and many times before, 'I have GREAT confidence in MY intelligence people.' However, I also recognize that in order to build a brighter future, we cannot exclusively focus on the past – as the world’s two largest nuclear powers, we must get along!"

Tuesday, 2:30 p.m. ET: Facing a growing backlash upon returning to Washington, D.C., Trump said that he "realized there is some need for clarification" about his remarks on Russian interference in the 2016 US election. "In a key sentence in my remarks I said the word 'would' instead of 'wouldn't.'" He explained he had reviewed a transcript and video of his remarks. "The sentence should have been: 'I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be Russia'," he said. Sort of a double negative."

Wednesday, 12:30 p.m. ET: Speaking during a Cabinet meeting at the White House, Trump was asked by a reporter if Russia was still targeting the US. "No," he responded, looking directly at the reporter.

Wednesday, 2:45 p.m. ET: Asked about the comment later, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said the President was declining to answer shouted questions when he said "no," and not disputing intelligence findings. "The President said 'thank you very much' and said no to answering questions," Sanders said.

Wednesday, 5 p.m. ET: President Trump said he holds his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin personally responsible for Moscow's attempts to interfere in the 2016 US election.

The OPer in his messages indicates an extreme fixation on opposition to reality, facts and truth. The endless OPs he starts are comical, though lack any concept of creativity or original thought.

Trump has dementia, Jake. He doesn't know what he said in Helsinki or what Putin said to him.

Jake, are you aware that all of your last three posts were totally non responsive and did not challenge any of the points made by the OP? If you disagree with the OP and want to participate in the discussion, why not make some cogent arguments regarding why you find what he wrote to be incorrect? Do you think you are making points with these silly meaningless, pointless quips? Well, you are not.

Trump Lies an awful lot, it makes it hard to believe him. I wish he would just shut his mouth and keep doing things. His actions have not been so bad it is his words that ruin everything.

We are of one mind on that. I am pleased with the meeting they had in Helsinki. We must progress in the direction of harmony with Russia. Were it up to me, I would attempt to collect Russia as an ally. I keep thinking ... why the hell did NATO act so belligerent to Russia and try to exclude Russia from their organization? Then Obama moves military troops on their border. If we had Russian Troops facing us in Canada, we would collectively crap our pants. We would take that serious. Russia can't simply ignore our military troops on their border.

I don't trust a ****ing thing Trump says.

except when he says nice things about Russia or North Korea.

those I believe to be his honest thoughts and feelings.

and when he attacks our intelligence services, those too are his honest feelings.

if you paid attention to the news over the last 20 years you would know that Russia's actions in Ukraine and Georgia and Ossettia are responsible for that.
