This recent article talks about all the activism and new grassroots organizations springing up on the LEFT, because of the dissatisfaction with the Trump election and presidency. In addition, it discusses the money that is pouring in. However most billionaires and 1%ers are Republicans. Can this well of new dissent turn things around for the Democrats, despite the efforts of the 1%ers? https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/10/...dfather-of-a-democratic-renaissance.html?_r=0 In 2009, according to the National Council of State Legislatures, there were 4,082 Democrats serving in state legislatures and 3,223 Republicans. By 2016, the numbers had reversed: 3,135 Democrats and 4,177 Republicans. In 2009, Democrats controlled both the state senate and house in 27 states, the Republicans 14. After the 2016 elections, Republicans controlled both branches of the legislatures in 32 states to 14 for the Democrats. .... Emerge America, an organization that recruits Democratic women to run for office, is stressing the need for candidates to file for state legislative seats. In the first six months of 2016, the group raised $500,219; during the first half of this year, it raised $2.03 million.
He was always bad for the Republican Party, a party he didn't join until he was almost 70 years old and wanted to be POTUS. His criticism of McConnell and Ryan isn't helping the party either.
Is Trump "bad" for the Republican Party? I voted "no". Instead, I've concluded that the RINO 'Republican Party' is bad for what the Republican Party once was, and what it should have continued to be -- Conservative, logical, economically-rooted, and devoted to the Constitution of the United States AS IT WAS WRITTEN AND AMENDED! To be brief, today's RINO 'Republican Party' is a disorganized, venal gaggle of indecisive opportunists who have neither ethics, nor dedication to stated goals and principles. And THAT is why, after being a life-long member of the Republican Party for over 45 years, I changed my Colorado political registration to "UNAFFILIATED", less than three weeks ago.... . The Republican Party of Ronald Reagan is dead -- destroyed by RINO's!
Voted no for the same reason's as post #4 , even down to changing my Colorado political party affiliation to unaffiliated, except I did it after the March ' caucus' fiasco.
I could not have put it better myself. This is exactly my opinion as well, crystallized even more eloquently than I could possibly have. And the democrats party could use a similar blowup/shakedown, as well. Both parties, and the country, would be better for it.
Those are many of the same reasons that I disassociated myself from the Democratic Party over 30 years ago. I have registered as a Republican a couple times since to vote in California primaries, but today's GOP is even more disgusting that the Democrats. This culminated into last year's circus of an election featuring the two worst candidates in US history and putting a sleazy, ignorant blowhard into the White House. Some choice...
The fact of the matter is, republicans and democrats are both bad for America, in slightly different ways... ways that offset each other. That's why the swing of the political pendulum is so critical.
The two party system is bad for America, too, if we're going to go so far off course in this thread. So few parties cannot properly represent the interests of an entire nation. We should have a much more diverse form of representation, something like the parliamentary systems of Europe.
You could have easily expanded this poll to "Is Trump bad for America" Hes a man baby who has skin about as thick as a piece of rice paper.
Trump IS the Republican Party. The never Trump Republicans are bad for the party and for the country.
For all intent and purpose, Trump has castrated the Republican party. It is now a confused mix of infighting and impotent belly aching with a touch of playing the blame game. Had it not managed a huge amount of gerrymandering 2018 would be a slaughter.
I guess, to you, it's not important that a president builds unity within his own constituents in the Congress and the Senate.
Trump got rich mainly by applying the methods of the junk bond based corporate raiders to other types of businesses. Trump ruins everything he touches, bankrupting them in the process to enrich himself. He's doing it to the Republicans and the USA now.
