The Republicans have a retirement virus going around. They will be lucky to hold the Senate.

Lol...Too bad those splendid 'job creators' are just relocating to another sweatshop country instead of manufacturing in the US.
But then, the cons would scream like stuck pigs about suddenly having to pay three times as much for the same useless tat they used to make in China.

Lol...trump doesn't 'address the nation', he tweets petulant brainfarts in the middle of the night and his turd polishers trot out the next day, trying to put lipstick on a pig.

I think you're right. Both sides will look for an out. Trump has to get this fixed before the election as reelection is impossible without economic progress to point toward. He's got nothing else.

He picked on the wrong country.

"Trade wars are good and easy to win" -compete ****ing moron.

He's already tweeting about doing an 'interim deal' (in other words, capitulate) so he can kick the can down the road before the election and con his supporters into thinking he has actually done something.

Blah, blah, blah.....same old chatter that went on before Trump took office. Where is that economic crash that was predicted?

    This is what will happen:

When the consumer finally realizes that THEY are paying for the tariffs, not China, Trump support will tank. Then, he'll cave and cut a deal with China about minor trade issues, call it the biggest and best trade deal in the history of the world EVER, and proclaim China trade made fair by his negotiating skills. His fans will lap up the koolaid with no problem.

    Hilarious.

Trump team rushes to find escape hatch for China tariffs

    https://www.politico.com/story/2019/09/12/donald-trump-china-tariffs-1728369

"President Donald Trump's top advisers are rushing to find an escape hatch for a series of tariff increases in the coming months, worried about the potential for further economic damage.

Many of the president's top economic officials are trying to resurrect the terms they previously were negotiating with China, a deal officials said was "90 percent" done before a sudden impasse this summer, according to a person familiar with the discussions."
    .............................................................................................................................................
Translation: the tariffs are hurting the economy. That pain will only get worse. An election is coming. Don's poll number are in the toilet. So.............it's time to put first things first...........meaning Il Duce Don's re-election takes precedence over everything.

China decides to be buyin' US pork, and beans again. Because prices in China are through the roof. Supply must increase to get prices down.

That's more or less what I expect. I think China figures it's best bet is to stonewall any trade deal, while at the same time interfering in our elections in order to produce a Democratic win.

    China Covertly Subverting Trump Reelection

They would probably prefer Biden since he's already expressed his support for China but any of the Democrats will be happy to return trade to the pre-Trump status quo, so they can get busy shipping US jobs to China and importing enough fentanyl to kill off the victims of those job losses. In Democratic terms, it's a two-fer.

That should be the Democratic 2020 slogan, Make China Great Again!

So do you think Trump will actually implement the additional tariffs on 300 billion?

Short term pain accompanied by government subsidies (AKA temporary welfare at taxpayer expense) is the often repeated meme of conservative economists who actually understand how international trade works, since Trump obviously does not. They are scrambling to cover for him, and his avid base is willing to swallow any little crumbs that defend and deflect from their dear leader's incompetence.

I don't see it. Maybe 2022, but Team D needs to stop whining and start planning/doing something that resonates with the people. WE AREN'T TRUMP, is not a winning platform, unless only democrats vote. I can't speak for the entire middle, but for me, it's old, it's boring, and it's not even remotely entertaining anymore. It's exactly how I felt when Republicans won't shut up about Obama. Calling the opposition names may be fun, but it's very childish. (I am talking to BOTH sides, here. Uber partisans are revolting.)

And all of these magnanimous manufacturers will be paying their "new" American workers less than half of what they were earning before their jobs were shipped overseas, now that they've gotten rid of those pesky workers' unions. I'm guessing they'll also get a hefty tax break for hiring Americans. Forgive me if I seem underwhelmed.

GOP Retirements Spike, Diminishing Hope Of Retaking House Majority In 2020
So far, 15 House GOP lawmakers have announced they will not run for re-election; two of those are running for higher office: Alabama Rep. Bradley Byrne for Senate and Montana Rep. Greg Gianforte for governor in their respective states. On the Democratic side, three members have said they will not run, and Assistant Speaker Ben Ray Luján has decided to run for Senate in New Mexico instead of for his House seat.

imo Trump hopes he will not have to. But he has to fight the MSM, the dems, and China as an axis rolled into one enemy.

Consumers are already paying for the tariffs on a lot of Chinese-made goods. I recently shopped for some new reusable beverage bottles, and they are about twice the price as just three years ago. I expect we'll see a lot of that in the coming months.

I would be wiling to pay these higher prices for goods made here, by unionized workers earning an actual living wage.
