Is White Privilege really a thing? <<Moderator Warning>>

Do you have that quote correct? I tried to find it but couldn't. Are you sure he said "you AREN'T viewed with suspicion?" If he wasn't viewed with suspicion then I can't see what the problem is.

 

This is such a convoluted subject and the various descriptions and reasons are created based on what Political agenda you want to push.

Do whites have privledge, yes by merely being the Majority race in the USA and since this country was founded by Caucasions they have most of the "OLD" money and with money there is privledge.

Does the average white person that gets up every day and goes to work 50 hrs a week have privledge, YES, they have the privledge of paying taxs to give illegal immigrants free stuff and to pay for welfare and every other handout democrats can conjure and one of my favorites Sanctuary city, county and states.

 

If it exists it's the idea that your race is just an incident of your birth. You can be a mechanic a janitor a doctor or a rap artist and you won't be called the white version of Uncle Tom. What's funny is how every group of people have a term like this.

Banana: yellow on the outside white on the inside. Yellow somehow means Oriental people

Coconut: brown on the outside. A dark complected South or Central American.

I'm not even aware of a word like this for white people.

White people aren't expected to act a certain way by white people.

I remember in 11th grade I had an English teacher that was a young black woman. She was very nice and a great teacher but I remember the black students telling her she was acting white.

 

Any person on earth could read the comments on this one site alone and conclude; "yes, white privilege is most assuredly a thing."

You take it for granted. You don’t even have to think about it. If you are a white male you don’t even worry about not getting picked up by a cab. If you are a white male you don’t get all stressed when you walk past a group of guys of making sexual comments. You Take for granted that you will not be followed around in the store

 

Be grateful you don’t have sickle cell...you can’t wear clothes to protect yourself

And when you really want to hold banners for a external characteristic by hiccup of birth, you see posts like this. People who want other people to feel guilty because their skin is a certain color, and don't deserve anything they have regardless of how hard they have worked for.

Give it up. You wanna feel guilty for your external characteristics, have at it. Don't try and paint your guilt issues on people who don't care what color a person is, or what their genitalia is.

 

You are clueless as to what a racist actually is. Likely those that don't get hurt by meaningless labels, don't have a reason to be 'hurt'.

 

I never said that anyone should feel 'guilty' for the color of their skin whether they're white, black, brown, tan or yellow. What I DID say is that white privilege is real and even gave clear examples of how it is. In the future, please don't lie or even suggest that I've said things that I have not.

 

By attempting to label people with 'white privilege', that is exactly what you are doing, otherwise you wouldn't have a reason to attempt to label people with a terminology as such. What other response could you possibly be looking for? None.

Like I said, every individual has their plus and minus column. Every individual. Even those homozygous and heterozygous for the sickle cell trait.

 

You keep harping on this "getting picked up by a cab" thing. I'm actually more likely to get a cab as an attractive female, especially if you factor any male chivalry into it.

 

No that's not what I'm trying to do. But people such as yourself should understand that the color of your skin matters in the United States. The best way I can explain it is that if you're white, you are born being positively stereotyped.

Every person should be looked at in a positive manner, provided that they have not given people a reason not to look at them in such a manner. Every person should be assumed to be honest, hardworking and responsible. Everyone is not.

These advantages, these privileges, make life easier for the average white person. Other people will be more likely to go above and beyond to make things work for white people. This isn’t to say that people of color are “screwed” and can’t succeed. It just means that people of color, through no fault of their own (usually), have to try harder. It’s something you would barely notice unless it were suddenly taken away — or unless it had never applied to you in the first place.

 

Reading “Mother Jones” is not a path to enlightenment. On the contrary, it’s a way of becoming brain dead.

 

Now that even blacks and latinos can be 'white nationalists'. Theres not much sense in taking offense to being labelled a term that has lost any real meaning.

 

"Racist" was the white N-word, but as you've noted, overuse has worn it down.

There is no such thing as white privilege therefore there is nothing to check.

What you call guilt is compassion. We don’t feel guilty for racism and we don’t have to lie and pretend that people aren’t discriminated against because of ex eternal characteristics. The problem is you have no motivation when you see how certain people are treated as undesirable and undeserving ...Rather than address the message you attack the messengers

 

Thanks for the article it says what I’ve been saying “ research suggests that one factor behind the rising suicide rate is an erosion of the privileged status of white men”. Men are losing their privileged status and killing themselves. When women were denied the privilege status they didn’t kill themselves they made changes. Poor men have to deal with sharing the pie and rather than share they kill themselves..poor white men .
