I don't doubt that Trump would like to get Iranians to the negotiating table, but that has nothing to do with your claim that Washington was begging the Iranians to please limit their response. That's absurd, but that's the story you created this thread with.

 

Trump fears a war with Iran. All his plans depend on Iran not escalating. His plans depend on Iran starting negotiations. I have no doubt that there is much more in the background going on.

That Iraq today voted to kick out americans is a diplomatic battle lost for USA.

Lets say Iran taks out an american official now. What then? When they dont negotiate but escalate this?

Trump, who promised he want leave middle east will be dragged into a war that dwarfs Iraq and Afghanistan by magnitudes.

Yeah, losing Iraq would be such a devastating loss.

This gives the US a perfect reason to cut and run from the Iraq mess. And the Iraqis are demanding that we leave, so the Trump haters can't scream and yell about "Trump is abandoning our allies!" and pretend to care like they did with the Kurds.

It's actually a yuge win of a loss if you truly understand the Iraq situation that Trump was handed, and wants desperately to be rid of.

 

A war with Iran would be America's choice, not Iran's. If Iran had the capability to go to actual war with America, they would've done it long ago.

Trump sees that there's no advantage to launching a real war with Iran, and so it won't happen.

 

Why do you keep dodging the central issue of your thread, the claim that the US is begging the Iranians to only retaliate a little bit? That's what I objected to, the obvious falsity of that ridiculous claim. Do you believe your own OP or not?

As for the rest, I don't think Trump is any kind of mastermind, but after first calling him an idiot, you seem to think he is. Escalating so that the Iraq's request that US troops leave Iraq sounds like exactly what Trump has been wanting; a legitimate excuse to pull out of the region; one that even the political opposition and neo-con Washington establishment can't really object to.

You characterize that as a diplomatic loss and probably a lot of the Washington establishment would agree with you, but for Trump it's a win.

If the Iranians take out an American official...well they've taken out hundreds of Americans and we've done nothing, so it only means the war on terror continues, which it was going to do anyway.
