I was impressed by the authors' attempt to objectively sort out the issues surrounding free speech vs hate speech. They make a point I hadn't really considered, the difference between the traditional print media and the much newer digital media with it's instantaneous reach to millions of people. Where do you think the line is on allowing hate speech is:

I've never felt unsafe using Twitter. But then I've never used Twitter so there's that to keep in mind.

It's not 'debatable'. Pre-Musk Twitter was a American Abusing, Election Fixing arm of the dirtbag FBI.

I'm always going to speak my mind, it's just a question of if people are pushed to fringe echo chamber spaces where extremism thrives or allowed to engage in the public square where such things can be challenged and debated.

Even talking to fascists and communists online who were actively calling for my death - I never felt unsafe online.

As expected, Musk is banning people based on political views. Its some Antifa guy, and probably a pain in the rear.

I have maintained that the owner of the platform can ban anyone they want for any reason, but it was foolish of him to sell himself as someone who was against such bans.

Furthermore, it looks like he has put Twitter $13 Billion underwater.

A leaked internal message appears to show Elon Musk ordered Twitter staff to suspend a left-wing activist's account

IDK what "hate speech" is anymore TBH. The left have become cannibals on this issue. Saw where the LGBT left is attacking an actor from the series heartstopper who plays a gay character and who supports gay causes in real life simply because he agreed to be a voice in a hogwarts video game and that is somehow supporting hate because hogwarts is JK Rowling and JK Rowling, a feminist, thinks women have a vagina.

Clearly it is unsafe and needs to be regulated by the 'right' people:

People that can't handle a conversation unless folks that disagree with them are throttled and silenced, should probably stay off Twitter. It's not like you don't have a bunch of other platforms rigged in your favor as well as the 24/7 propaganda campaign of the lying fake news media.

I don't know about "safe", what ever that means. Snowflakes are gonna snowflake regardless.
Twitter was supported by advertising fraud. Ad rates are set by circulation, now called "views", and Twitter was rife with bots, not to mention former swamp employees working with theDC swamp to censor messages they disagreed with. In short the old Twitter was a fraud, and celebrities and wanna be celebrities were attracted to it like flies to honey.
Now it is smaller and more "authentic", but now advertisers are cowering in fear of wokeness, and the wannabe's are getting the ego massages anymore.

Using Twitter while crossing the street is unsafe. Using twitter in your home on a nice day is probably one of the safest things you can do.

Most of the snowflake type victims would call me a heterosexual CIS male ( that's progressive dog whistle for white conservative male and also likely Christian) but I guess they'll have to call me a feminist too now because I don't think females have a vagina I know that they do..... Believe me because I've confirmed it for myself with a few of them.

If there's any doubt all you have to do is check the plumbing

I think Musk has made Twitter worse now than anything else. It still has the same problems it still has, and it is easier for some to post crap on Twitter so that Musk can get his ego stroked, but that is it.

However, it is still the largest "pub" online outthere, but even the police are trying to find a way to provide alerts to the general public without using Twitter now.

Good... No one should have an absolute Monopoly on large social media platforms.... Especially those displaying a clear bias

Im not on Twitter, so that would be a definite no. But without the blue checkmarks, it will not be both easier to create fake accounts of celebrities and harder to get them removed per new Twitter rules unless Musk likes you.

Yeah, who knows who those people are. True loons who create loon accounts and follow other loon accounts to go viral and grab attention to make something sound wayyy bigger than it is?

    Maybe.

My very gay, very active gay person, sensitive to all wrongs committed against gays, still loves everything HarryPotter friend continues to buy new HP merch as often as budget allows. We both still love and support the franchise.

The right certainly had their panties in a wad when Rowling announced that Dumbledore was gay. It all really is two sides of the same coin, here.

    What is unsafe?
    Who are the right people?

All of this is highly subjective.

I'd say it's only a public concern if laws are broken.
A private company can run a business as they see fit. Again, as long as no laws are broken.

Consumers/users will determine what's good or not, by being a member or not being a member of said site.

How many at PF have been banned for violating TOS? How many stop posting here because they don't like the content and moderation?
It's up to the sites owners to allow what they want and dismiss what they don't want.

Agree. People who don't like how the censorship is going, go find another platform that conforms to one's ideology.
Afterall, much of social media is echo chambers.
