First full day, second full press conference.

What are your opinions of the new WH press secretary, Jen Psaki?

I'm unfamiliar with her, so for the moment anyway, I'm looking at the two pressers objectively. There's plenty of information on who Jen Psaki is, which I'll read later. Here's one link for anyone so interested:

Jennifer Psaki is the new White House press secretary. She is a Connecticut native who grew up in Greenwich. (msn.com)

Myself, I'm impressed all the way around. We'll see how long a policy of daily pressers lasts, but there's an air of transparency that's been lacking for quite awhile.

Psaki and the press are on a first name basis, and the exchanges were fluid and respectful. She's not perfect at dodging questions, but she remains composed when doing so.

What impresses me most is that it's obvious who's in control. Though Psaki flinched slightly on recurring questions about impeachment and the filibuster, she reasserted herself well and dismissed the questions tactfully.

I agree with the right that Democrats are cozier with the press than Republicans, and this is fairly obvious so far. However, I find it amusing than Jen Psaki made the press look like the pathetic "scoop hounds" they sometimes can be. All dumb questions concerning work that has yet to be started, much less completed, were met with a smile and a charmingly sarcastic, "I'll have to circle back to you on that. This is day two."

I like her. And I like the return of professionalism and transparency.

One of the most thankless jobs on the planet, good luck to her.

refreshing to have a press secretary that doesn't have to massage her masters ego every time she speaks, doesn't feel she is speaking to a party of one

Agreed, though I'm sure the talented ones are well appreciated by their bosses.

It's not supposed to be easy. So far, so good in my book. Of course, it is only day two. There will be controversy and much tougher questions. I wish her luck as well.

"Do you think that the Biden Administration could possibly be more perfect?"
"Is the President aware of what a brilliant, trusted and popular man he is?"
"Now that President Biden has crushed COVID, will he be moving on to curing HIV and Cancer next week?"
"Now that People Magazine has crowned Hunter Biden Sexiest Man, can the President set me up with dreamy Hunter?"

Won't be a very tough job.

That's a Trump press secretary. There is no more of that. Thank god. Get informed.

Why judge Jen after the first day on the job. She's part of the honeymoon. Give her the 90-day probation and then do the critique.

I don't know what happened to Jen, but this guy doing the briefing today is horrible.

I would very much like to see a moratorium on Trump bashing going forward in these briefings. He's gone. No need to compare the two POTUSs. No need to discuss what he did or didn't do - nothing productive can come from that.

I haven't heard Trump mentioned once. What are you referring to?

She made up a new term yesterday. "Racial equity". Whatever that means. And it was used as justification for suspending the deportation of any illegal alien including those who have been convicted of violent crime in this country. I translate racial equity into modern slavery democrats can depend on.

Watching Fauci yesterday, it was clear that reporters were wanting him to bad mouth Trump. I'm not pointing out anything specific - just making my wishes clear for going forward.

Your wishes have been granted. Nobody is talking about Trump. What you saw yesterday was about Fauci and how he felt, not Trump. Everybody saw the difference; of course they're going to ask about it.

After the last four years, I am not sure what the job even is supposed to look like. One thing is for sure, I bet every dollar I have she doesn't get run out of restaurants and body shamed by Hollywood and the media. I can't think of many jobs I would want less. As long as she can project an honest representation of the intentions and direction of our POTUS, I wish her the best. After all, its about the message, not the messenger.

She knows how to herd the crowd.
She knows how to answer questions.
    She comes über-prepared.
She treats all journalists with respect.
She gives journalists from right-leaning news outlets the same amount of time as journalists from left-leaning outlets.
And when she hears a really unexpected, excellent question, she notes that.
    She is calm.
    She does not lie.
    She is unflappable.
And when a really stupid question pops up she smiles and says "oh, what an important question".
She's also very pretty and elegant.
She, however, says "uhm" too much for my taste.

The term has been in use for more than 30 years.

There must be a reckoning. The level of criminality that came out of that horrible man MUST be addressed and as long as a historic 2nd impeachment trial is looming, it's going to be hard to avoid any and all comparisons between the two POTUSes, but with time, the orange turd will fall into forgetfulness....

Quite well. Obviously not her first rodeo.
I'll give her a B so far. She needs to be a bit more creative in dodging. The questions aren't going to stop just because she dismisses them. And they shouldn't. I hope she improves in this area, but the direct answers are comprehensive, accurate, and professional. <<< that word can't be over-emphasized.
A+. She's so prepared with her notes that it can look like the questions are staged. Very impressive.
How sad is it that we have to mention this?
I'll take your word for it as I'm unfamiliar with the press corps for the most part. I haven't noticed any partisan questions so far.
Agreed, except for the umm part. I hadn't noticed it. The gentleman before her today had that problem.

Psaki is as dumb as a stump, while the adoring press tries to assure she is really a genius.

FIGHT THE POWER: Texas Strikes First, Seeks To Block Biden Administration’s 100 Day Moratorium on Deportations.

On January 8, DHS and Texas signed agreement that put limits on changes to immigration policy.

Certain immigration policies "result in concrete injuries to Texas." For example, a "decrease of any immigration enforcement priorities" would injure Texas. Why?
This is the sort of argument advanced in the DAPA litigation from 2014. Under 5th Circuit precedent, Texas would have standing.

The Jan 8 agreement establishes a "binding and enforceable commitment between DHS and Texas." Specifically, DHS commits to "consult Texas and consider its views before taking any action, adopting or modifying a policy or procedure, or making any decision that could reduce, redirect, reprioritize, relax, or in any way modify immigration enforcement."
DHS must fairly consider Texas's views before making any changes.
If DHS fails to comply with this policy, Texas has the right to sue to enforce the agreement, and vacate the new policy.[/quote]
DHS expressly waives the defense that there is an adequate remedy at law:
    The forum selection clause states:
Seems like bumbling Joe missed a lot of steps here.

The agreement requires 180 days notice to terminate.
