Jews And The Killing Of Jesus

A common criticism of the Jews is that they killed Jesus. It is time that this be responded to meaningfully.

First, Jesus asked God to forgive the people who executed him. This means that the rest of us have to do the same thing, or else be disrespectful to the will of Jesus. If Jesus wants God to forgive his executioners, then he also wants you to do the same thing; and failing to do so is disrespectful of Jesus.

Secondly, the Jews, in executing Jesus, were only following their religious law. The first commandment is “thou shalt have no gods beside me.” Jesus, in claiming to be God, committed the worst sin in the books. That is why they insisted on crucifying Jesus while letting off a murderer.

Finally, the white people want to be absolved of their crimes of slavery and colonialism. They can start by absolving the Jews of a much earlier – and much lesser – crime of killing Jesus.

Am I a Jew? Yes I am. And I want to bring sanity to this matter. The people who want to be absolved of the sins of their ancestors need to extend the same grace to others. And that means that the people whose ancestors perpetrated real crimes of slavery and colonialism need to forgive the Jews for killing Jesus.

Once that is done, it will be possible to resolve our differences in a civilized manner. And then people – both Jewish and gentile – will be able to work together to create a livable world.

We did not want him to die!

Yet how can I write this part of the story? It is our shame! It is my torment! And who will believe, after all these years?

But this secret has been locked up in my heart for too long.

Why should he die? We all told him of the danger. And we had seen others die for lesser teachings than his.

He had been such a comfort to us, leading us to life. Now he seemed bent on death, almost suicide. We begged him often not to go again to Jerusalem because we knew of the anger of the Temple authorities. They wished to kill him as much as we wanted him alive.

How had he offended them? By telling them of their hypocrisy. “Whited sepulchres,” he called them, and “viper’s brood.” And they proved that way. They would invite him as a guest to their homes, only to find evidence against him.

When he healed on the Sabbath, even in the name of the Father, they said he broke the Law. When he gave the people food for their souls, they said he was in league with the Devil. But when he said he was the Son of God, then in a violent show, they shouted and tore their garments and said he spoke blasphemy.

“He must die,” they shouted in a frenzy.

Calmly he spoke to them, “Will it change anything, even if I die? Will you be closer to God or will my words die? Death is nothing but a door. When you kill my body, I will yet see you and your sin.”

“Death, nothing?” they shouted. “The Law says that anyone who blasphemes should be put to death. Yes, we will come close to God by obeying the Law. But you will die in your sin. God Himself will punish you. But we will inflict punishment on punishment before you go.”

We knew this would come. We knew of the hatred in their hearts which blinded them. So we did not want to go to Jerusalem. They had already driven us out with their threats. Now we were in a safe place across the Jordan, where John used to baptize in the river.

Yeshua’s fame spread throughout the countryside and people came to him from far away. He would teach them, then we, his disciples, would teach them in smaller groups. Many learned of the Master and his message in this way, so that he had many followers.

On pages 137 to 170 in this book.....the number one cause of anti-Semitism by Christians over these past eighteen centuries is addressed.........(brilliantly I might add)....... and it could be argued that the author also address anti- Semitic activity by Muslims........ over the past twelve centuries.........

Here is a good example of the type of literature that can win the Nobel Prize for Literature:

I admit that I may be biased.... but I do believe that Dr. MacDonald has even Winston beat in this category...... because three to five centuries from now more humans will be aware of what Dr. MacDonald wrote than will be aware of what Winston did.
