Props to Jimmy for having a foot in reality. But the award is meaningless now because they gave one to Ovomit.

Carter: Trump could be worthy of Nobel Peace Prize
Former President Jimmy Carter said Donald Trump would be worthy of consideration for the Nobel Peace Prize if he’s able to pull off getting North Korea to abandon its nuclear arsenal.

“If President Trump is successful in getting a peace treaty that’s acceptable to both sides with North Korea, I think he certainly ought to be considered for the Nobel Peace Prize.

I was actually thinking the same thing, but didn't want to get jumped for saying it.

Trump may be a disreputable human being, but he's doing some good things, including getting the Hell out of Syria, and pressuring NK to stop the crap & reunify.

Oh - and Jimmy Carter = :winner: :blowkiss: :winner:

    A. Not a current event... Carter quotes from May, before the eventual disaster of Singapore (which came before the bigger disaster of Helsinki)
    B. Trump wasn't able to do either thing Carter hoped he would (in bold above)
    C. See A and B above

I guess blowing up an old nuclear test site didn't fool Trump into lifting some sanctions. Democrats and Republicans were worried Trump would give Kim what he wanted and get nothing back for it. I'm guessing this false assumption is what really pisses Trump haters off.

Dirty Donald has done no such thing, and at this point looks like he wont be able too, the deal he already signed with north korea is weak, one of the weakest deals we have ever seen

If Trump - or anyone else - gets NK to give up nuclear weapons, that person should definitely be considered for a Nobel Peace Prize.

But - Trump hasn't really marched the ball downfield very far on this one. He got some empty promises and in exchange he cancelled US/SK military drills. He gave away something for not-very-much.

But that's how he rolls. Do a crappy deal and claim it is a great deal.

Well, the anti American rhetoric coming from the Norks has stopped and I don't believe they've launched any missiles lately. Remember when Hawaii had that false incoming missile alert or whatever it was? No one seems all to concerned about Nork aggression these days. I'd say that's a plus in Trump's column.

I never claimed that Trump said he wanted the Peace Prize.

What I said is correct: Trump does crappy deals and claims they are great. FFS he came back from Singapore saying there was no more nuclear threat from NK.

Trump has certainly accomplished far more than Obama ever did to earn his. What did Obama do....breath? Be the first black potus? What? WTF did he do? Trump would have to actually FINISH doing something. Just talking isn't quite it. But Obama was simply handed one....for.......talking.

Why was obama the first black president? Was he not of mixed race? Maybe that is what made him worthy of the award.

Obama got his Peace Prize for not being George W. Bush.

Based on that criteria everyone else on the planet should have received a Nobel, too...

This, Trump has shown NK that he doesn't mess around. The same thing can be said for the Chinese President. Trump should stick to his guns more, his foreign policy has been mostly effective.

There is no doubt that President Trump has earned a Nobel Peace Prize...but the left wing has made the Nobel Prize so political...with people like Obama, Gore, Paul Krugman, and Arafat winning....it's rather meaningless.

Why the hell did you think a quote from May qualified as a current event thread this morning?

It is because you were so desperate to see any kind of good news related to Trump that you were willing to just post a seven month old quote about what Trump could have done, but very clearly failed to do.

Well, a reasonable person would not have expected a history making deal done in short order. The relationship could lead to something much better and significant.

Is NK still shooting off their missiles and testing nukes? If not, is that not better than before trump met with him? Be fair, if possible.

The situation is better because neither Trump nor KJU are currently using twitter to threaten global nuclear war over 5th grade school yard taunts.

Should Trump get credit for escalating and creating a dangerous situation that he then de-escalated? All he did was meet, personally, with KJU and provide that man with an international recognition of his legitimacy.
