Joe Biden Doubles Down On A Racist Myth About Black Parents

The New York Times editorial board pressed Biden on these claims and asked him to elaborate on how solving the word gap would address the legacy of slavery. Biden began his answer by noting that former President Barack Obama had also been criticized for advising Black parents to take more responsibility for raising children. He then suggested that America could do more to help minority parents “provide more guidance and better guidance for themselves and their families.”

Finally, he suggested that Black parents may not participate in their children’s schooling due to embarrassment about their own lack of education. Biden said he’d learned from his wife, a former school teacher, that poor parents “don’t show up because they’re embarrassed. They’re embarrassed the teacher’s going to say — and it’s hard to say, ‘Well, I can’t read.’”

Sounds like Joe is perpetuating racist myths.

-Black parents don't talk to their children, so they should play records (vinyl records!) with normal conversations so those children can expand their vocabulary.

-Black parents don't help their children with homework, etc because they themselves don't know the subject matter-they never learned or are illiterate.

-Black parents need guidance on how to raise their kids...America could do more to help minority parents “provide more guidance and better guidance for themselves and their families.”

Biden can't seem to help himself-he again demonstrates that he is a fossil.

 

The is a definite culture gap in the African american family related to the family unit.

The number of single mothers in the black community is astounding.

This is all based on facts, not racism. I disagree that parents arent invested in their kids education because they are embarrasssed. They are devested because they dont care about education, just as their parents didnt.

Joe - you're an idiot. As a teacher myself, I'm finding it pretty difficult to believe that his wife was a teacher - but whatever.

I think the best assessment as to why scores for Black kids are lower than others overall was put best by a Black custodian we had at my former school. He would often go to home visitations when Black kids were involved, and he would say the same thing every time: "The reason scores are low is because when you go to a Black house, there's always two things missing - books and dad." And that was fifteen years ago, I'd say things have gotten worse since then.

Now, add to that the fact that there's minimal parental involvement - and usually it's because mom can't handle it alone especially when there's multiple kids involved - and you have a recipe for disaster. What's worse is the cultural issue where getting an education is seen as being white OR being a sell-out to your own race - and I see this at my school, the demographics are 25% Black, 70% Hispanic - and there's more issues.

This isn't a hard rule of course, just off the top of my head I have two brothers who are succeeding like mad, and one girl who is outstandingly good - best student ever. But coincidentally, they all have parents who give a damn about their kids education and will listen when the teacher calls instead of playing the race card when the school says hey, your kid has a behavior issue. And that brings me to one kid who has a grandma (dunno where mom or dad is) who does exactly that. It's a bit harder to do when the Black principal - one of the very best in the country I might add - let's mom have it, she can't play the race card then - and I'm not white so she listens to me as well.

The difference maker is always this: Do you have a parent who values education, not just at school but at home and models that value, or do you have one who doesn't - or worse, looks for any excuse they can to blame everyone but themselves for their piss-poor parenting skills?

One more time - Joe: You're an idiot.

BTW-Biden said something similar a month ago, and the Times was trying to throw him a softball to clear this up-instead he doubled down.

 

There was a lot of black parents in your post. The fact is that 72% of black children are raised in a single parent home. Traditional conservative family values are needed for exceeding in education.

I have literally heard Democrats say things like certain races can't be racist because of of their race. It is the people who see racism in everything that are the racist... rocking chairs, black holes, betsy Ross flags, math, and many many others.

I often say, you can hold a random object in front of a Democrat and that Democrat will tell you why that random object is racist. No joke.

 

I think Democrats have done their best to hold black communities down with failing schools and unchecked crime. Then Democrats tell black communities they are poor because of the evil white man and his privilege.

If you're black, have kids, and live in a blue area, move away. They will brainwash your kids into little white people haters. See it everyday here in California. Do you want your kids to think their skin pigmentation makes them who they are and they have to act a certain way. Say certain words other races can't.

 

According to some people, the problem is with black women. Some are simply not interested in having long-term stable relationships. That is why there is at least 500,000 more married black men than there are married black women in America.

 

Thats in large part because of the democrat party-which has made the state the father.

Nothing is more important than the specific place where you live. It determines just about everything.

That is not necessarily true. There are more married black men than there are married black American women. Some black guys marry black foreign women instead of American black women, maybe because they consider foreign black women better wife prospects. It is important to note that there are countless long-term black marriages that have lasted decades. But younger black American women do not generally seem to be highly stable. That may be one of the main contributing causes of the social problems that everyone is discussing.

 

If Joe isn't careful, Buttigieg is going to get more black support than Biden....and Buttigieg has almost zero black support.

I am also interested in hearing more about your proposal that teachers who specialize in individualized area of study are a reason as to why Black kids are failing. Is this why corporate training at any major company being done by different people is failing, in your opinion? Perhaps our workforce would be better served if we could find people who are experts in training people in all subjects - business rules, sexual harassment, tax codes, orientation, technical skills, retirement, health issues, and the like?

Those people are blaming the symptom for the problem. Prior to Johnson, black men and women had higher rates of fidelity than whites. Then Mr. 'I'll have blacks voting democrat for a hundred years' entered the picture.
