Mike Pompeo, Trump's choice to lead the CIA, characterized Wikileaks as a "hostile intelligence service" and that “it overwhelmingly focuses on the United States while seeking support from antidemocratic countries.”

On Monday night, the Atlantic's Julia Ioffe reported that Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of the President and a senior adviser to his campaign, had exchanged direct messages on Twitter with WikiLeaks during the course of the 2016 race.

Junior quickly released the exchanges, which amounted to a number of notes sent from WikiLeaks to Trump Jr. and three responses sent from Trump Jr. to WikiLeaks.

"Here is the entire chain of messages with @wikileaks (with my whopping 3 responses) which one of the congressional committees has chosen to selectively leak," he tweeted. "How ironic!"

Junior's obvious attempt to minimize this news accomplishes the reverse of his intentions. You don't overreact to something that is truly a nothingburger. There is a problem with his interaction with Wikileaks.

First, because by the time Wikileaks was communicating with Junior. -- late September and early October 2016 -- he, and anyone else paying even the smallest amount of attention to the campaign, knew that US intelligence officials were convinced that Russia was responsible for the hacks of emails from the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta that were being posted on the Wikileaks website.

The second reason the communication matters is because it had long been denied by the Trump campaign -- at the highest levels. In an October 14 interview on Fox News, then-vice presidential nominee Mike Pence was asked this: "Wikileaks, some have suggested on the left, all this bad stuff about Hillary, nothing bad about Trump, that your campaign is in cahoots with Wikileaks."

Pence replied: "Nothing could be further from the truth. I think all of us have, you know, have had concerns about Wikileaks over the years and it's just a reality of American life today, and of life in the wider world."

There, perhaps, is nothing criminal here, but it can be argued this was a boneheaded mistake by Junior. While he may not be guilty of a criminal act, he is guilty of an activity that amounts to political suicide for his dad.

It is also a reflection of the fact that the Trumps seem to think the laws of man and nature don't apply to them. Junior's tryst with Wikileaks can be compared to Senior's gaffe about Putin and his moronic attempt to un-ring a bell.

You are truly amazing. You must have voted for Trump.

You somehow think acting stupid and letting the world pass you by will help your cause. Amazing.

The evidence against Trump, his son, and his associates is so overwhelming it is difficult to keep track of it all. In a way, I don't blame Trumpians for ignoring it all. What else can they do? They must know Trump and company are guilty, but they stay with him anyway even when he embraces the ruler of a hostile foreign power.

Trump's son, son-in-law, and campaign manager met with Russian operatives in Trump Tower.

Papa, Page, Manafort, Gates, Flynn, and Kushner, all members of Trump campaign team, have had relationships with the Russians.

Manafort and Gates have been indicted by the special prosecutor.

Trump himself believes Putin and considers the Russian interference in our elections a hoax and a Democratic scheme.

Trump refuses to condemn Russia for its aggression and support of our enemies, Assad's government and Iran.

Through it all, Trump's attorney general and a senior advisor to his campaign, Jeff Sessions, is lying his fool head off.

It is no wonder Trump's base wishes to ignore all this and concentrate on an old woman who retired from politics a year ago.

Considering it’s a hacker organization whose calling card is the anonymity it provides to whistleblowers leaking government secrets, WikiLeaks sure seems to have some shoddy security practices. The transparency group, led by its chief-in-exile Julian Assange, sent a series of direct messages over Twitter to Donald Trump Jr. starting on Sept. 20, 2016, less than two months before Election Day, according to a report in the Atlantic.

n correspondence with Trump’s son, the WikiLeaks account shared details about a new anti-Trump website it said was about to launch, putintrump.org, and provided the login information for the site. “We have guessed the password. It is ‘putintrump,” the message read.

“Off the record I don’t know who that is, but I’ll ask around,” Donald Trump Jr. responded.

Sending a Twitter direct message was an incredibly dumb move, at least from a digital security perspective, but Assange’s WikiLeaks continued to communicate with Trump’s son over Twitter for at least another 10 months, long after his father became president. The direct messages were shared with congressional investigators by Trump Jr.’s lawyers.

Interesting. I even learned what DM meant, direct messaging. Obviously, I am not a fan of social media. What a waste of time.

    What "rigging" did they do?

What law are you claiming was broken?

The DNC does not provide funds to the candidates.

They schedule primaries and debates. That's about it.

In fact Clinton gave money TO the DNC

Read the OP again. I never mentioned the word, "crime."

You did, though. Are you sensitive about something?

Hint: Something doesn't have to be a crime to be incredibly stupid from a political point of view. Why is it Trumpians always want to talk about a crime? They even invented one. Collusion.

Breaking News! One year ago, Hillary Clinton lost the election.

Who gives a f**k today that she allegedly rigged the DNC. Tax payers don't fund the DNC. Even if she did, that is not a crime.

It's looking more and more like they threw the dummy out there to make these connections.

Unless they're gonna claim he was going "Fredo" and wanted to play with the big boys. He's gonna end up in a rowboat in the middle of s pond (figuratively)

Can you post a link to the law so we can all see the crime they committed? And why hasn't anyone been charged with this crime?

You have a point. I have a hard time believing Junior could be so stupid.

On the other hand, beginning with Trump himself (refusal to release taxes, not putting his businesses in a trust, possibly working with a hostile foreign power), many of his close associates and family members seem to think they are above the law.

Tax dollars are not used to fund the DNC or RNC. Were you being cute? Taxpayers fund the DNC and RNC with donations.

Footing the Bill for Political Conventions
Taxpayers Foot Bill for Republican and Democratic National Conventions

American taxpayers help pay for the political conventions held every four years by both the Republican and Democratic national committees. The conventions cost tens of millions of dollars and are put on even though there have been no brokered conventions and every presidential nominee in modern history has been chosen well beforehand.

Taxpayers directly contributed $18,248,300 million to the Republican and Democratic national committees, or a total of $36.5 million, to hold their presidential nominating conventions in Election 2012.
