U.S. sailors aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD-5) fire at a killer tomato using various crew-served weapons.
It's classified I suppose. The killer tomato seemed to take numerous hits and wouldn't sink. But the Bushmaster machine gun seems to be a whole lot more accurate than the .50 cal Browning M-2. It appears it's a Bushmaster 25 mm/87 Mark 38 Machine Gun System -> http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WNUS_25mm_mk38.php Remotely Controlled and Stabilized 25 mm Mark 38 Mod 2. There's a larger Bushmaster, the 30 mm (1.2") Bushmaster II Mark 46 Mod 1 -> http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WNUS_30mm_BushmasterII.php
Haven't seen those at work before. The barrel design is new to me, as is the ammo belt in the top pic as well.
According to NavWeaps the U.S. Army has had a 7.62 mm chaingun since the 1980's. 7.62 mm Bushmaster Chaingun. In service since the 1980s as an Army weapon, this electrically powered chaingun is now being proposed for a coax installation on the 25 mm Mark 38 Mod 2 platform. This chain gun is an open-bolt design with misfires automatically ejected. Empty cartridges are ejected forward... http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WNUS_762_Chaingun_mk52.php
I know about chain guns; the belt on the top pic is new for me, but then a lot of post-1980's stuff is. Is that thing going to throw casings all over the deck or is it caseless ammo? I also note the gunner isn't wearing any protective eyewear, either, at least I can't see any.
