The short and sour, we can track more asteroids. An ELE isn't going to happen. But there are a bunch of smaller asteroids that could hit with the force of a bunch of nukes and we can't do anything about it even if we see it coming. One of the lessons we keep learning about Space is everything is a LOT harder than it looks. IMO, we should be putting a lot more effort into learning how to persuade one to go bother someone else.
There is progress on this. ESA (Europe) is doing this one: https://www.esa.int/Safety_Security/Flyeye_ESA_s_bug-eyed_asteroid_hunter And, there have been plans to have a satellite inside Earth's orbit that looks back toward Earth, away from the sun. Such a placement would mean that aseroids (which are usually dark and hard to see) would pop out in the infrared spectrum as the asteroids would be heated by the sun on that side. So far, a lot of the asteroids that could possibly ever be threats were found by back yard asteroid hunters, because the significant agencies are focused on very different topics. Maybe those days are coming to a end. If you want to name an aseroid, you better find one soon!! There is still the problem of what to do about it.
It will happen just like all the calderas will blow at some point also. All of it will fix the heating up the left is so worried about though. Should get quite chilly then.
This shows a total misunderstanding of timeframes and human impact. You really need to think about consulting science for science.
