Liberals: What Do You Think the Government Should Do to Help Blacks?

It seems like the plight of blacks is a common topic of discussion.

We keep hearing about how unfair life is for blacks and how white people are to blame for many of their problems.

My question to you is what exactly you'd like to see the government do to help blacks.

Tell me exactly what it is you want. Be specific, and don't include voluntary activities. I want to know what you think the government should do.

I keep hearing that racism or some other act of passive aggression is to blame, so how do you want to combat that?

Oh, and please try to refrain from screaming "RACIST!" in this thread--it isn't an argument anymore than "(*)(*)(*)(*) you" is.

 

Personally, I think the problem of "Blacks in America" is beyond any sort of "Government Help".

It is a problem that is so ingrained in the culture that it would be much easier for the government to fill every pothole in the USA.

 

I agree. The government, at least our government, can't do much to influence their culture. Giving them a leg up in hiring decisions, university admissions, and welfare haven't done much of anything, either.

This is why I started the thread. People keep acting as if there is something we could do. Well, I want to know what that is.

 

the govt. would have to do the following:

-guarantee a quality education, K through 12, for all black children.

-guarantee free childcare for all black families if they wish to work.

-guarantee good entry level middle class jobs for all blacks.

-guarantee good affordable housing for all blacks

-guarantee free quality healthcare for all blacks below a certain income level.

-guarantee free job training for all black.s

-guarantee free tutoring and post-HS education so all blacks qualify for college education.

-guarantee free college tuition to all black people below a certain income level.

I think they should continue to do what they are doing. Some affirmative action coupled with minor direct aid for the poor, old and sick who need it. And yes, I said minor, what we do for poor people in this country is really not much at all when compared with the rest of the civilized world.

It would also help if the police and white vigilantes would stop shooting them dead for no good reason occasionally. Mind, I think that actually happens FAR less than is being alleged by some, BUT it shouldn't happen AT ALL.

 

Why not offer that to everyone?

Um, this seems nice and all, but firstly, how are you going to pay for it and secondly, even though I don't believe that these things will work as shown by the failed war on the poverty, but why are all these programs directed at race rather than income?

leveling the playing field for American workers would be a start to keep people like Trump from sending all his jobs overseas....

Trump was already a billionaire, meaning he only did and still does it for greed....... what other reason could their be?

What we don't like are people who are unwilling to help themselves not be poor, or who choose illegal avenues to make money.

We understand that handouts help no one, they simply make people dependent.

 

Let's elevate black lives by electing black people to high public offices and giving black people more access to money. I know we already have the Obamas, Kanye West and Shaquille O'Neal but you can never have too many rich powerful blacks in the world to suit me.

 

Their culture? Their culture is our culture. If you paid attention to something other than the usual right wing silliness you'd know that blacks have been doing better under Obama. Turns out the best thing that can been done for blacks, or any minority group for that matter, is to have a role model.

So, as conservatives, like you, have continued their false (and bigoted) characterization of all blacks as poor, dumb, and reliant on government handouts, many blacks youths have been inspired by the fact that Obama, a black man, is president and have been progressing well.

 

BS. The left cares about the poor in only one way. They care about keeping them poor. They do this to keep them needing assistance so that they can secure their votes. Most people would prefer to work and earn their own money. The left cant have that.

The govt can nudge some changes into the white culture to help blacks.

Not that that reframe sits at all well in whitey white land and it's default position of always laying out the black/white question in terms only of what blacks must do or have done to them.

I suppose they sleep well, these self-uncriticals.

If the government has that much extra money floating around, I would like 10 million dollars and a lifetime supply of 20-year-old Russian hookers.

 

It's really not about the poor though is it. The right are the ones that want something for nothing. Start at the top and they don't want to pay their workers but want more work. They don't want to pay for roads, the military, or prisons yet they complain we don't have enough. It doesn't take a lot to explain the usual Republican economic incompetence - which is the root cause of Democratic areas doing better since Bush's economic crash than have Republican areas.

 

So when you started with "BS" did you intend it as a warning? In the internet age demographic information is everywhere. Could you not look it up and see if what you are saying has any merit? Like for instance those on the lowest rungs of the socioeconomic spectrum vote barely at all. And addicted junkies? Are you for real? Most are felons and couldn't vote even if they could rise enough up out of their wretched state long enough to care to vote.

By the way the Epipen fiasco has more to do with the corporate greed that Republican voters like to worship.

 

The best way to "help" anyone is to stop "helping" them.

If welfare and social services are to be provided, at least make them time-limited up front and fgs teach the basics of a moral system that will give the clueless a clue. Teach the basics of personal economy as well.

Create some sort of small loan system so those on the edge don't crash and burn over one month's rent or car repair bill. Keep alcohol vendors out of the inner city. Set up affordable public transportation to large work sites. Provide government work programs to assist those who can't make progress elsewise.

Provide free long term contraception to anyone that wants it. Provide a financial incentive for this for anyone already on SSI or welfare. Require MHMR and other social services to provide legal assistance for those deemed " not mentally competent" to get this.

Do NOT provide apartment living and monthly checks as a reward for having an illegitimate child. Apartments should be for MARRIED couples only. Everyone else gets a berth in a rooming house with a shared bathroom.
