"Life"....just what is it? There are over 100 definitions for 'life' and all are wrong. It is surprisingly difficult to pin down the difference between living and non-living things. How could we recognize alien life if we can't even agree on a definition of what is life here on earth? http://www.bbc.com/earth/story/20170101-there-are-over-100-definitions-for-life-and-all-are-wrong [What is the meaning of life? Who knows? then....what is life? How about what is alive and what isn't? Do we really know anything about the subject? What do you think?]
Well, nothing is ever simple. So it's not surprising that scientists are reviewing their definitions of life as they further study it.
Ability to replicate would be one part of the definition...but by that we could infer crystals are also alive, couldn't we?
oh me me me !!!! sticking hand in the air... The meaning of life is to create meaning in your own life and the lives of others What is life, well it's an organism consisting of cells with the ability to reproduce, be functional and change... you could probably add a lot more onto this
Life "as we know it" is obviously not the limit of what life actually is....hell we did not even know of extremophiles 20 years ago. The endless possibilities make a serious definition impossible. The "Meaning of Life" is actually easier because it is human based mental masturbation. My personal definition is very simple. " To become more"
do you mean an Artificially intelligent computer virus... it would meet all the requirements except for cells.. still I would regard it as life
