    The government will save us!

Democrats are working on loan forgiveness plans. I really need help with that new car loan I just started. And that home improvement loan ...

I remember when lots of people had those kind of jobs. Then they started leaving. And the middle class here started dying.

You seem to ignore that we are a service sector econony and most jobs in that sector suck and dont pay much. People work those jobs because there is no other work.

This aint rocket science in how our economy has been changed that gave us a service sector economy that teens once filled these jobs. Now its adults doing that work. On teenage pay.

Government does what it does because people demand what they want- which is generally to send the ubiquitous "someone else" the bill. A government promise them what they want to hear can't be elected.
IF any government told voters they were all going to have to tighten their belts, and that government was going to live within it's means and start paying down the national debt....

    Would never survive.

They won't accept that good idea until they are pushing wheelbarrows to Krogers, when it's too late.

Imagine all that paper money in plain sight on the street and nobody's going to roll you.

Then you obviously don't know anybody in a skilled trade, they make damn good money if they are any good at what they do. https://theplumbinginfo.com/how-much-do-plumbers-make/

The narrow minded idea that only someone who wears a suit has a good paying job, explains why the liberals think only people with 'higher education' have any value as humans.

Lots of people have those jobs and there is a glut of them out there right now. Service sector jobs can pay quite well, go learn how to service robots for instance. Wages are INCREASING, we have the highest standard of living ever. We are having one of if not the best employment situation in the history of the country. The person in the OP obviously does not know how to budget and her statement about her husband's state taxes.

"Generally, you must withhold state taxes for the state where the employee performed work. You must register with each state tax department where you’ll remit the withholding."
    https://www.patriotsoftware.com/blog/payroll/state-income-taxes-state-employees/

Now he may be an independent contract getting 1099 where he has to pay all his payroll taxes himself, but that all has nothing to do with how much NET income they receive.

They used to teach family planning and budgeting in schools, maybe we need to bring that back.

I don't term people bad or good. Try again. It is good thinking that your federal tax withholding is a savings account and is it good to think that if you get a big tax refund that's a good thing?

Sorry you totally lost me...........I have called on Georgia-Pacific plants, my one customer is now Roseburg but I am picking up another GP as the company I work for was acquired by another and I was on the verge of retirement but they are making me an offer I can't refuse to stay on and I was a production superintendent for a restaurant equipment manufacturer back in the 1970's, what does that have to do with anything?

I remember in my 20's thinking about how much I would need when I retired and thinking it was almost insurmountable, how would I ever get there. But I started investing, remember the Magellan Fund, meagerly at first and as I made more increasing that amount, dollar cost averaging and compounding. Stayed out of debt. Rule 1 pay yourself first, invest first then spend what is left over and don't live beyond what you earn.

We already know. You don't own multiple corporations living on the south side of the 6 figure divide...and "living within your means" is a hell of a lot easier on that north side of the line
