Good guy with a gun (professional security guard) stops an active shooter and is then murdered by the government.

Who wants to place bets on the officer who killed this citizen never seeing a day in prison? "I was afraid for my life." - The Cop Get-Out-Of-Jail-Free card.

    That story is sad.

Using it to fuel an anti-police agenda is also sad.

How is it anti-police to want them held accountable for killing or abusing citizens?

It’s hard to tell if the officer is criminally responsible for the death. The people screaming, “He’s a security guard”, won’t help his case, though.

Let the investigation run its course.

No, the jab at our gun rights was the sad part.

Where exactly what a jab at gun rights? This is exactly the kind of thing having a good guy with a gun is for. Too bad a bad guy with a gun (and a badge) then murdered him.

Why should the officer go to prison?

Because your comment is a massive exaggeration of the risks of “good guys” holding guns. How many unarmed people have been killed just this year alone in mass shootings? Then wonder how many “good guys” with guns accidentally killed an innocent bystander in, say, even the last two decades? The numbers aren’t even going to be anywhere near the ballpark.

Unless I misunderstood your logic in your first sentence. I took it to mean you saying, “See “good guys” with guns kill innocent people, too!” If I’m mistaken on that, I apologize.

This is a very unfortunate incident, but it's not indicative of a larger problem. People make tragically foolish mistakes, an even smaller number of people are sociopaths with a badge and gun.

What would happen if you walked up to and shot a security guard who was in the process of detaining an active shooter?

If the guard was shot by accident there is no reason that the policeman should go to prison.

What would happen to you or I if we shot a security guard who was in the process of detaining an active shooter? At the very least, we'd get charged and convicted of manslaughter.

"I thought I saw a gun and I feared for my life." - The cop's free excuse to kill pretty much anyone.

I don't think a racially balanced jury of his peers will buy that.

I don't believe in accidents where guns are concerned, only negligence. Which I think is punishable? Not that my 2 cents matters.
