You need to read it in context, way to go. I can do the same with any other religious texts. Don't take it out of context and you will find it is a lot better than you think. You also need to find out if your hadith is authentic or not. Many Muslims, imams, etc will not accept an unauthentic hadith. Anybody can write a hadith.

The big difference with Old Testament and Islam, is that Islam is still living in the middle-ages, whereas Christians and Jews, except for some fundamentalist sects, aka Amish, live within contemporary ideology.
