The french way of thinking of french people would rather to assimilate those people. That's a huge difference with USA, but in France, it's rather ill considered to create associations to defend a specific minority as black, asian or white. You're a citizen, end of the line.
It's even forbidden to create statistics about ethnicity or religion (the reason is : the last time it happened, the people who registered themselves got a free trip to Poland, and not to visit Cracaw).

Being french is not about your origins or the color of your skin. It's about culture and the values of the republic : freedom, brotherhood, equality and the fourth one you don't have in the motto is : secularism. It's about too of culture, art and litterature.

Asian people, either from india or east asia seems rather willing to integrate and accept the french rules. Muslims seems more problematic. When some people outside France don't understand why french are that hostile to the muslim veil, but we tend to consider it's a threat to their assimilation. When those people consider that having your hair uncovered is something bad, how they could respect our pictural tradition of the nude ?

Their is a lot of muslims who are good people, but I think too that in a general way, Islam is a bad thing.

Because traveling to look at people is completely normal and in no way creepy and dehumanizing.

And let's not forget this winner from her interview with CNN:

How people can vote for someone who has so much contempt for her own people is beyond me.

I don't see the contempt here ? I'm rather anti M Le Pen however.

If you want to understand the success of M Le Pen, you have to look at the ruling partis, and the fact that the country go just worst inside EU.

My suggestion is, that in the final round, with two candidates, Le Pen will stand no chance. At least not against Macron. There's too much at stake; she would mess up Europe and completely wreck the EU. If Europe falls apart, it will be at risk of returning to late 19th/early 20th century rivalry and hostility - a risk that does not exist for the USA with Trump. The recent events, Brexit, Trump, finally a dictatorship in Turkey through a popular referendum, have shown that a slap-the-elite vote can have really serious consequences. Le Pen may be strongest, as long as there are multiple other candidates, but when only one other candidate is left, even those who dislike him will probably just vote against Le Pen.

However, this will probably not work for all eternity. I don't think Le Pen will win in 2017, but if the old elites don't become better, and Macron turns out to be a swindler and corrupt, too, some heavy impact may follow.

It's one of the first election for a long time were nothing is played. Someone who was at 8 % of the vote of the first stage one month ago is now to 19 %. Marine le Pen is at 25 %. Probably Macron/Le Pen however with a final victory of Macron.

She's at 1/3, with Macron at evens. According to the bookies she has a 25% chance, with Macron at 50%. That's a lot better than "no chance". She might win.

A surprise scandal, that knocks down Macron, like Fillon before, might reset the game and give a serious chance to Le Pen. Especially if it happens immediately before the final election. That Fillon is really obstinate, not to quit the race yet. Not sure about that leftist, Mélenchon. He will probably not reach the final election, but if he does, there will be another chance for Le Pen.

But I think both options are very unlikely.

I agree with you, but there is a wave in America, also. The so-called president has brought back "America first" which was the pre-WWII isolationist slogan and hampered Roosevelt trying to help defeat Hitler.
I do not know why it is hard to grasp that we are all humans and share the globe, and where we were born shouldn't matter - what we do with our lives is what should matter.
    I hope LePen loses.

    Twist is all he has.
You are correct and are stating history very well.
Here the GOP wants to go back in time while ignoring the lessons of history.
They seem to think denial of facts will mean they don't exist?
Nationalism brings tariff wars and often leads to "hot" wars, as we should learn from the past.
We should stress more what we have in common, rather than highlight differences.

French people can stand anymore the corruption of their elites. Those elites used for a long time the FN as an excuse for plundering the country unpunished.

We all know what Le Pen's saying about the EU, I forget what Macron's stance to the EU is compared to Mélenchon's.

I think Macron wants EU reform and Mélenchon wants France out of the EU like Le Pen.

I for one, understand Le Pen will probably not be in the UK's best interest, however, if Le Pen exits, UK gains leverage in EU negotiations and hopefully can pave a safe path out of the EU for all who wish to exit and be on good terms with the EU.
Le Pen herself however has campaigned unsuccessfully to have UK's border in Northern France sent back to the UK only to be shut down by President Hollande.

If it worked for Trinidad & Tobago, can't it work for UK & France?

DW TV, from Berlin sizes it up like this

    http://www.dw.com/en/france-preside...h-security-concerns-after-shooting/a-38541530

We recall in the USA that the polls and media promised us all that Hillary Clinton was the clear winner.

France does not use the same voting system so perhaps polls are better there.
