Anyone that has ever been there when the Pogies die off from sucking the oxygen out of the shallows... not interested. Billions of rotting fish... You couldn't pay me to buy it.

I can't get over the lack of elevation. I looked on a map and that Island appears to have direct exposure to the Atlantic. Don't they get waves more than 5-feet tall? How does that building remain? It wouldn't last a month or maybe even a day here on the West Coast. The first time you get decent waves it would be gone.

I guess so! I'm sure most people are familiar with Hawaii and their 60-foot waves at the Pipeline. But even in Southern California I rode a 25 footer at my regular Beach. That was the biggest I ever saw but even 10-footers weren't terribly rare. Any of those would take that place out completely.

PS, the wave height is measured from the back. So a 25-foot wave might have a 35-foot high face depending on the slope of the shoreline.

I liked skiing there. I liked that it was close to Quebec.. but I didn't like the whole "can't get theh from he'ah" kind of mentality. and the rotting fish.. wow...

    I also live in Maine.

Perhaps the best way to see a place is on a bicycle. There are bike tours of Maine you can take.

We also have one of the nicer sections of the Appalachian Trail (that's for backpackers). It ends in Baxter State Park which is my favorite part of the state.

In a typical year, we get a few million tourists. Acadia by itself can get over a million.

We have good food, Portland punches way above it's weight class in restaurants, thanks to tourists and fierce competition.

There's a ton of very different vacations you can do here. You can hang out on a beach by a lake or the ocean. We have great fishing. You could arrange an entire vacation just around our best restaurants.

In fact, there is a state law that says you have to have popovers and lobster chowder at the Jordan Pond House in Acadia. (Just joking, but you can rent Mtn bikes, ride Rockefellers carriage trails, and stop there for lunch. Makes for a great day).

There are a lot of music and summer stock venues. Most are mediocre.

There is Moodys Diner, that has been serving up good food for nearly a century. The food and atmosphere are liking stepping into the past. We love it. Try the Walnut Cream pie. Their ice cream is Round Top, which is the best, and worth a visit to their place in Damariscotta. Ask what's fresh, esp. if it's a fruit ice cream.

Could you put the cabin on stilts, and put solar power on top running a desalinator?

Firefighters work to contain Northern Maine wildfire

They say firefighters should have it fully contained by sunset.

We’re told no structures are threatened, and there have been no firefighter injuries.

Forest Rangers say the preliminary cause is believed to be lightning.
