Trump is an absolute Buffoon with his "we are testing more than any other country thus we show more" He actually wants to stop the testing altogether, if he could. Thus we would have ZERO cases and he could announced we "BEAT IT"
This really shows just how out of touch he is with reality. It will drag more of his devote followers into Covid and many of them will finally get just how dumb he is with his comments.

We blew it, obviously it is more he and his Cronies BLEW IT. No one had the gumption to stand up to him and denounce his rhetoric. He looks at everything in TODAYS terms. Today we test more, we get more.

Our country is going to be the 2nd or 3rd worse when it is all said and done. Brazil and Maybe India will be worse. We should have done so much more early. Trump said it would just go away, dont worry about Masks, dont worry about distancing and open up the economy. In a month things will be twice as bad.

    Relatively speaking, he's correct.

Comparing past and future statistics, and using that to imply growth, is not fair if testing has expanded.

Furthermore, a positive test does not necessarily indicate the patient truly has Covid-19. It is not that simple, and this has been covered in other threads.
So perhaps he could in part be referring to false positives that get counted in the statistics.

Many people may not be aware of this, but in the medical field it's common knowledge, if you change the diagnostic criteria for who gets a test, it also changes the diagnostic specificity of the test, statistically.
So for example, if you applied a test that was 90 percent accurate on 1000 people, but only 10 of those people actually have the disease, then the majority of people who test "positive" for having the disease will not actually have the disease.
It sounds somewhat paradoxical but is easily mathematically verifiable.

On a per capita basis were are NOT the leader in testing. Not even close

We ARE however the leader in infections and deaths

Please provide a link to the per cent of false positives.

Because my understanding was the test was pretty accurate when it came up positive and that false negatives were more of a problem

    Nucleic Acid Amplification Testing (NAAT)
There are two main types of tests for COVID-19. The first detects viral RNA using molecular methods such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR). You can read more about this test in ARUP Consult’s COVID-19 topic. These tests are highly specific because they are based on the unique genetic sequence of SARS-CoV-2. If a test comes back positive, you can be confident that there was SARS-CoV-2 viral RNA in the specimen collected from the patient. However, the sensitivity of these tests varies based on both the timing and the way the sample is collected.

5% of the world population, but 20% of the covid cases. And we are starting to look only marginally better in this category because Brazil is doing so much more poorly (with Trump twin Bolsanaro at the helm). MAGA!!

When I've looked at the numbers, I don't think we should include resolved cases with total cases(it creates a much bigger number then it is.) So for example, it's not that we have 2.5 million cases. But about 1.3 million(IE: The cases that haven't been resolved.)

You do understand the test that has been used does not actually test for the Covid-19 virus?
It tests for coronaviruses, of which Covid-19 is one out of many relatively common ones that have been going around for decades.

Coronavirus could be the deadly new Covid-19, or it could be something like the common cold.

Trump is an idiot and much more. That's why I didn't vote for him.

However, the simple math shows that if testing rate is reduced, the number of reported infections will also be reduced.

It's not up to POTUS regarding testing, it's up to the various state governors.

Trumps point is more test equal more Covid cases being found which is giving liberal governors an excuse to keep their states economies closed.

Not bad at all if you’re young and healthy which is the group testing positive

State economies should remain restricted to keep this virus from exploding further.

When the young and healthy test positive, they bring it home to their older and sicker relatives.

What would you rather have? All your wishes fulfilled forever or a ham sandwich? The ham sandwich because nothing is better than having all your wishes fulfiled and a ham sandwich is better than nothing. That's mathematically verifiable too and makes about as much sense as Trump's statement.

What Trump is saying is that we should stop testing because the testing is making him look bad. He's coming right out and saying exactly that and his acolytes are dutifully defending it right along. Talk about lemmings, at least lemmings just leap off the cliff. They don't compose dissertations about why they're doing it.

Here is another Trump made-up story to have the Trump drones to tell each other and to the clueless.

Sounds it was made up to have to tell GrandMa and Grandpa its ok to hug all the kids when they get home from a Trump Rally.

Of course, I will retract all of this if a national reputable medical authority says this story is true! Lol!

    It's called a coronavirus test, not a Covid-19 test.

    Lol!

So there still is zero credibility for this clearly false assertion.

Its particularly telling that even Trump and his minions don't try to claim this utterly false assertion.

Ever notice we are getting closer to election time and the ability to affect nationwide mail-in ballots is limited and time is getting short.
Could there be any ulterior motives by the lefties in desperately trying to create more fearmongering?

Oh I see what you are saying.

Trump wants to slow down testing so that we falsely believe that there are fewer cases and thus there will be less political pressure to expand safe options for voting. Meanwhile Democrats want to expand testing so that we have a more accurate understanding of the spread of the virus and thereby increase political pressure to expand safe options for voting.

Which ulterior motive is preferable to you?

It is objectively not called "a coronavirus test."
