Perceive is not fact nor evidence. i look at the past change to know if the likely hood is higher, if ccp change alot or even just few HK law regarding freedom of speech etc. sure, they likely do it again. but i haven't found evidences to support that, maybe you know what law they changed in the past?
2nd. China can just wait for Basic law to expire, which is only 28 years from now, they dont need to change it, it will expire on its own. Thats why i said HK should really thinking about migrant to other place, cause time to 2047 is basically 1 generation.

Why should the HKers move? I think HKers should stay and fight! Righteousness shall prevail!

against overwhelming power? i doubt it. its not something they can fight against it, without losing too much. perhaps if mainlander demand some political freedom, then they can get the chance. most HK ppl just want to have a stable economy/jobs.

May be that's why some of them want US to get involve....i m not sure if it is a good idea...for that would lose the support of the mainlanders and we never know what's the true motive of foreign powers.
But I still hope US will do the right thing and truly help in righteous motive if she has to get involve.

I believe quite a lot of mainlanders are demanding more and more political freedom and personal rights. The CCP just suppressing these voices. And CCP is exercising patriotism through medias to turn mainlanders against the HKers. The chance is slim if HKers depends on mainlanders.

Hkers needs other power to help them.

Resume the draft at 100,000 per month quota for starters, build up from that, and get a huge force trained for warfare. Move them out as close to China as possible to continue hard training.

The delusion of speak truth to power will end, and it will be seen that only might and brutal force can make right.

Yup, rough country, very scarce resources, usually three hours to a hospital, a most excellent place to train and harden soldiers.

there is a difference between a dumb authoritarian vs a smart one. China is the latter one, they don't become 2nd economy from dirt poor nation in 30yrs for being stupid. it know what most mainlander want, and it know it can just wait it out in HK. the protest start with 1 million, now its getting more violent, most HK don't support that, and also from 1 million downto thousands. its running out of steam.

This is very superficial without any intellectual depth. For instance it’s not flag waving and patriotism that’s the issue, it’s liberty or tyranny. The issue is: does the state have the right to tell the individual how to live, or is it’s function to protect the individual’s right to live as a free being.

For example, if one waves the Nazi flag one is showing support for central planning, socialism, and subjugation of the individual to the common good. If one waves the American flag, one is showing support for the rights of the individual, for liberty, for freedom of thought, for the subjugation of the state to the rights of the individual.

The flag waving is nothing more than a concrete for the anti-idealists, the anti-conceptual, the feel-good crowd. Intellectual thought is for those who understand ideas matter and why.

Ideas are what men live by, not flag waving.

The issues is liberty vs tyranny. Now, if that’s not America’s core, then what is? America is the first and the only nation created specifically to protect the liberty and rights of its individual citizens. No other nation can make that claim. We are the fountainhead of liberty. Who else to ask for support but the nation that birth to individual rights. England? The country we revolted against? Does make sense.

When one needs a hero to defend liberty, better to choose the country of Thomas Jefferson, not the country of Edmund Burke—Thomas Paine answered him.

lol there are plenty democratic countries in the world, they wave US flag because US is the most powerful nation in the world. why they didn't wave german/india/Sweden flag. oh, the first democratic country was Greece, so maybe they should wave Greece flag. If US and german position are switched, they'll be waving german flags. its the power difference between US and others that make them wave US flag. furthermore, with current administration, ICE basically put kids in crowded warehouse, with no soap and aluminum foil as blankets, you think trump gonna help them If its democrat party in control, they might get some minor supports, but not with trump

Maybe you should try worrying about what the people of America want for a change.

Nixon started cause he want to use china to counter USSR, uptill soviet collapse. like old saying, there is no permanent friend just permanent interest. We want china market, we want the $$, if we don't, EU/Japan will work with them anyways. in fact, due to trade wars, china is making deals with them instead US.

    “We?”

Speak for yourself, and maybe globalists on Wall St and at the highest levels of most corporations

But captive American companies building and selling stuff in china does not benefit 99% of the American people

Why not permanency? If you were 30 at implementation the hundred years was okay, but if you're 30 now not so much.

HK is too small to against mainland China, that's why they call out US to help, they don't really want US militarily to do anything, just to be there to restrain China, at least not sending troops in, and hope Beijing will cave in to their demands
