I want people to stop using it.
That is one of the worse possible arguments. Keep on using something which is harmful because other things are worse.

No but it might make you feel better to know that it is illegal throughout the country by federal law.

Hahaha - And here my stoner ass sits thinking it was just a river in Egypt.

I guess I'm just an anomaly, although of course I'm not.

You have clearly not studied this to the extent you assert you have knowledge of.

How is it possible that I was such a stoner from 14 to 18, quit at 19, and yet served as a Pershing Missile Crewmember, among mostly other former potheads and several that continued and got kicked out, and then went on to attain my M.Eng ChE?

Your bullshit assertion of permanent brain damage is not support by my American Experience. Although I might be wrong, hubris and blindspots and the real challenge to know thyself are somewhat inescapable aspects of our condition.

"But research by the National Institute on Drug Abuse indicates that childhood marijuana use can affect learning ability, attention, memory, coordination, balance, judgment, and decision-making.1
National Institute on Drug Abuse. "How Does Marijuana Affect the Brain?" Drug Facts. June 2016.

While it may not be as problematic for adult use as once believed, there are still plenty of good reasons to discourage pot smoking in teenagers (other than the fact that in most states, it's still illegal)."

So you DON'T want pot to be illegal? Oh cool...so you're ok with legalizing pot. Nice.

Um...it wasn't an argument. It was a statement of fact AND a question to you. I notice you avoided answer the question.

I strongly recommend you google "use of marijuana by young people". Take a look at a few of the hundreds of studies. Don't dismiss them out of hand. Whatever effect it has had on you is a done deal and nothing can be done about it. But please, do no encourage use by others, especially young people.

Not at all. Making it illegal will not change much. What I want is for people to realize it has harmful effects, especially among younger people and don't say anything that appears like you are encouraging its use.

Please post the link to the universally accepted medical research that came up with that conclusion.

See above, same request. I'm well into my 70s, from the "Woodstock Generation" and most people I know and am still in contact with who have smoked weed since their teenage years (many still do) have led successful professional lives, some married, have had children, some are attorneys, engineers, doctors, etc. There is not one single one I know who has experienced any brain damage of any kind from smoking weed.

Methinks you're making crap up from thin air or more likely from the Reefer Madness propaganda you heard that you're regurgitating.

Nope, sorry - it was awesome. I loved getting stoned as a teen. As did just about my whole neighborhood. So we will have to agree to disagree, and fortunately, the winds of change are blowing your bullshit opinion away.

Are you actually claiming that marijuana has no detrimental effects on young brains?

    what the science says

"Moderate pot smokers’ lung function better than nonsmokers"

    https://pulmccm.org/asthma-review/i...ve-better-lung-function-than-non-tokers-jama/

"Smoking marijuana moderately over years is strongly associated with small improvements in lung function, even compared to people who have never smoked cigarettes or marijuana, according to a study in JAMA. But the popular news media and the study authors downplayed that finding of the study, apparently to avoid sending a pro-marijuana message."

depends on if excessive amount, the dose makes the poison

Please read for comprehension (emphasis added for your convenience):

And as already explained, real world experience (aka reality) contradicts your claims in their entirety.

Yes, I am in fact asserting that it has a positive effect. As I said, I found it to be quite enjoyable. And it never led to whatever gateway it has been demonized to have led to, well, maybe shrooms and acid. Jeebus, count me in with the Nobel Physicist on that account....

What the f do you know about the development of young brains? You've repeated the phrase enough to give the impression you have experience with childhood development. However, I also have the impression your background is in LE.

No argument in favor of the legalization of illicit narcotic substances has been made on the part of myself. Rather it has simply been suggested that if the people of the united states are too stupid to understand that there are certain substances that should not be used for recreational purposes, then they should be allowed to learn the folly of their ways the hard way. If they do not learn it on their own, then their survivors will learn the lesson on their behalf.

Have you tried googling "effects of marijuana on young people? You will find numerous links. I am still looking for your link where it shows it to be beneficial like you claim.

I do not have to find a study to support the fact that I found the use of marijuana to be both enlightening and pleasurable, nor to use my personal experience at having attained an M.Eng ChE as somewhat a personal statement to refute your assertion that its use causes permanent brain damage, particularly for those under the age of 25. In fact, and I generally refrain from doing this, but what level of education did you achieve? Did you succeed at Calc 1, 2, and 3? Differential Equations? How about mass transfer and thermo? Can you design a fractionator? How are your programming skills? Spreadsheet skills. Please....

I started smoking marihuana in the seventies. In Colorado. It was always available. I'm sure that Denver's infamous brown cloud has caused more harm to my health than has smoking marihuana. Mostly it is a social drug. Its more common use is a group of friends getting together and passing a joint or a bong. Then participating in a group activity, have fun. I'll bet, that there are households all across the Denver area, that light up, just as the Broncos begin to play. Some families have replaced celebratory wine with fine cannabis products. Even for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.

In high school I was ranked in the top 20 as were half my friends, and girl friends. We all partook. Not on a daily basis, but certainly when we got together on the weekends when everyone let their hair down. In fact, in high school and college, amongst many intellectuals, marihuana was seen as a cerebral drug, a creative tool of sorts. Even well into my carer, there were times where I, and a group of other engineers and scientists, brainstorming a new product idea, would be passing a pipe and sipping on a can of Budwieser or Coors. But then this was Boulder and the only alcohol that was sold was 3.2 beer.

I went to college on a scholarship from the state. I never received a grade below an A. The night before I took the ACT test, I stayed up late with friends, passing the pipe. I still got a 32. I think I aced the Science test, but didn't do so well on the English test.

Not only does Boulder stand out with its educated citizenry, and high marihuana usage, but it is also known for being a very healthy and health conscious place. In fact it was founded, in part in the idea of it being a healthy place to live. Where people went to improve one's health. It is where tofu was invented. With health conscious restaurants galore.

More than once, for the forth of July, I, and friends, climbed to the top of a mountain overlooking the Denver metro area. Got nice and high, and watched the displays below through high powered binoculars.

There is a run l used to do on my bike. It was around 4-5 miles, and all of it up hill. The advangtage was that it was all down hill on the way back. Every Saturday morning, I'd take a few puffs, plug in my earphones, turn up the heavy driving hard rock music, and take off as hard and fast as I could. There is just something really cool about feeling the power in one's leg muscles as one powers up an unforgiving hill. It is even cooler to feel that power when high on my favorite herb.

Throughout my teen years I swan competitively. Among swimmers, marihuana use was rather high. Again, not on a daily basis, but certainly when groups got together, especially after successful meets. I was not at all surprised when the pictures of Michael Phelps puffing on a bong came out. Not at all.

It would come as no surprise that a large number of marihuana users would have health problems. After all marihuana is a mood enhancing drug. It tends to put one in a better mood which makes one feel better. There are a lot of older folks who consume marihuana as a way of dealing with the aches and pains of growing old, of a deteriorating old body.
