Considering how difficult it is to acquire an Assault Weapon in NZ this must be made up, untrue something for the Onion to publish.

    But it's not.

One man was arrested and charged with murder in what appeared to be a carefully planned racist attack. Police also defused explosive devices in a car. Two other people were being held in custody and police said they were trying to determine how they might be involved.

The New York Times reports the camera used to stream the shootings was worn by the gunman as he attacked the Al Noor Mosque. The 17-minute video showed the man dressed in black shooting at worshipers and “piles of bodies” with a semiautomatic rifle.

NZ has very strict firearm laws but still, 49 dead, at least 20 injured in attacks at 2 Mosques.

According to New Zealand Police Commissioner Mike Bush the shooter was recently based in Dunedin, a city to the south of Christchurch.

The main suspect acquired a gun license in November 2017 and began buying guns the following month. Police recovered five guns at the scene -- two semi-automatic weapons, two shotguns and a lever-action firearm.

Two improvised explosive devices were attached to a vehicle as part of the attack, Bush said.

So much for the U.S. anti-gunners call for more restrictions on firearms to prevent such, what's worse is the anti's want is a disarmed populace like NZ, where no one could have the ability to stop this lunatic during his two rampages.

The anti's now have the blood of forty nine innocents on their hands, one wonders how they will spin this to save some face?

They will spin it as such:

Gun owners are responsible. NZ will have a mandatory buy back definitely of all semi auto rifles, probably all handguns too.

Anyone right of center is responsible. They will pass oppressive speech codes and repress these people.

Every bit as bad as the event itself is our response to such events. It always is. This is their plan.

Firearms laws obviously need to be tightened in NZ.

Gun apologist John Lott described New Zealand as being "armed to the teeth". Contrasting New Zealand and Australia , he wrote:

"The principal difference is that, post-1997, New Zealand remained armed to the teeth -- including with guns that were suddenly banned in Australia."
    -John Lott

Now gun apologists are desperate to spin this so that "strict gun control" gets the blame as Well-Bonded's post demonstrates. But the inconvenient fact for them is that the shooting did not happen in neighboring Australia despite its significantly stricter gun laws.

Scapegoating is not the answer. This human filth was quite upfront that he doesnt expect the immediate murders to do the most damage, but our response to them.

We need to stop giving people like these all the power to have us trash our freedoms and scapegoat innocents.

What, when it comes to Global Jihad, you believe that passive resistance will prevent it do you?

I believe that killing random innocents wont do **** all.

I agree in part with his diagnosis. Birth rates are the issue facing us. To sort this we import foreigners. What happens when they reach below replacement rates like us? We're just kicking the can down the road.

What I wildly disagree with is his prescription. Killing random innocents is counterproductive. Or at least it should be, if ordinary people are in any way decent.

The firearm-related restrictions in the nation of France have failed to prevent so much as a single terrorist attack from being carried out, despite their use of explosive devices and fully-automatic firearms that could not be obtained anywhere in the country.

I like the way some try to spin this shooting by using comments based on the New Zealand firearms laws from 22 years ago.

No spin at all NZ has most, if not more of the laws that the anti-gunners want to have passed in the U.S., and still this massacre was committed by someone who went through all the legal hoops and roadblocks in place, which according to the anti's would prevent such from ever happening.

Just to posses a long-gun a New Zealander must have a gun license, licenses which are not shall issue, but are issued at the discretion of the police.

To be issued with a firearms license, the applicant must be a fit and proper person over the age of 16.

They also need to have adequate secure storage for firearms, which will be inspected by the police, attend a safety program administered by the Mountain Safety Council, pass a written safety test, pay the requisite fee, and supply passport-standard photographs with their application.

Police also individually interview the applicant and two referrals, one of whom must be a close relative and the other unrelated, to determine the applicant's suitability for a license.

The applicant's residence is also visited to check for appropriate storage of firearms and ammunition and to ensure any other people living there are not a security risk. Having criminal associations or a history of domestic violence almost always leads to a license being refused. An application can be refused if the applicant has indicators of drug or alcohol abuse, criminal associations, a history of domestic violence, or a physical, mental health or disability issue that would prevent them possessing or using a firearm safely. Previous denied applications or revoked licenses may also be cause for denial.

A standard firearms license allows the use of "A Category" firearms. To possess firearms of another category, one must receive an endorsement.

As for handguns for self defense, forget it

B Endorsement – Target (competition) pistols

Applicant must be a current financial member of a pistol club, a financial member of Pistol New Zealand (or in some cases membership of an approved club) and have attended at least 12 club shoots in the last 6 months before they can apply.

Applicant must be sponsored by their club.

Applicant must attend at least 12 club activities (either at their home club or to another recognized club) in a financial year.

Applicant is normally limited to 12 registered pistols.

Pistols must be of an approved sporting type.

Pistols can only be carried to and from the range in a locked container with ammunition in a separate container or to a gunsmith.

Pistols may only be shot on a Police approved pistol club range.

The guy published a 73 page manifesto in which he described himself as a left leaning individual who was disgusted with the way New Zealand is allowing Muslins to take over NZ.

An Australia Senator went so far as to blame the Muslims (not firearms) for the shooting.

“The real cause of bloodshed on New Zealand streets today is the immigration program which allowed Muslim fanatics to migrate to New Zealand in the first place,” Anning said in a written statement."
    Senator Fraser Anning

While few realize it both Australia and New Zealand are having serious problems with Muslins failing to assimilate into the existing populations.

So what is your answer then? If politicians won't recognise it, and liberals keep inviting ethnics to their countries, that's the same as ignoring the social problems which you mention above, especially the high birth rates??

I do not support mass migration, I do support higher birth rates from people who are already citizens. The birth rates are a cultural problem. We have decided that career beats family.

I think we need to win in the hearts and minds of our citizenry, not through random killings and brutality.

Cities are the problem as far as I am concerned. What's the solution? I don't know. I can live a good life myself, that's a start.

You dont seem to understand the Australasian context.

If they get guns legally they will ban them.
If they get them from police arsenals they will disarm the police.
If they make them from CNC mills they will ban CNC milling.
If they use a lathe they will ban lathes.

The answer is always doubling down.

I need property in the US.

A call to increase the indigenous birth rate - for example, where there might not be enough workers/taxpayers in the future to sustain the retired demographic - is one thing. But to promote breeding in a world already on the brink of a population explosion doesn't make sense to me.

For years I have been told that NZ has a looser gun control legislation and they don’t have, until now, a high level of mass shootings

Now suddenly according to the American right NZ has really tight gun control

We've talked about this before, they are similar to Aus except semi-automatic rifles are available on license.
