This pause is not terribly unexpected given the fact that at least five Republican senators have publicly voiced their opposition to the bill. A bill that can only stand to lose two votes given the universal distaste for the bill amongst Democrats. And while this bill is still very much a possibility (after all, Republican leadership has roughly $200 billion with which to provide pork for wavering Senators), we are seeing the first true test of McConnell's ability to actually enact legislation - as opposed to merely obstruct.

They are doing this bill for the wrong reasons. They need this "pig" to pass so they can make their tax cut agenda deficit neutral. They should all have time with their constituents for feedback on something this significant to the people & economy.

Do they think celebrating Independence Day will make people more ok with kicking 22 million people off insurance?

Constuents? What's that? The GOPers are running scared from their constituents and the press.
Who in their right mind would want to have their name attached to that disgusting piece of legislation. Apparently, more than a few Republicans don't or Mitch would have the votes.

Mitch was born without a soul.
Mitch McConnell Refused to Meet With Group That Funded His Polio Recovery
(Vice) Say a charity group helps you recover from polio. Decades later, representatives from that same organization ask to have a word about your bill being drafted in secret that would reportedly gut healthcare for millions, including people with disabilities, while giving massive tax cuts to the wealthy. You might at least hear them out. Some people might even say that you owe them one.

Southern gentleman and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, though, apparently disagrees. As Death and Taxes recently pointed out, McConnell contracted polio as a two-year-old. As he described years later, on the 50th anniversary of the polio vaccine being introduced, polio is a virus that comes on like the flu, but can paralyze people for life. In McConnell's case, after he'd gotten over the initial illness, he had residual effects in his left quadriceps muscle.

Denying democratic activists the chance to masturbate all over them is not running scared. It is outplaying them.

Better right than right away. The Republican senators will come back after the recess and hammer out a bill.

Mitch McConnell is delivering an urgent warning to staffers, Republican senators and even the president himself: If Obamacare repeal fails this week, the GOP will lose all leverage and be forced to work with Chuck Schumer.

I wouldn't gloat too much about it. There has been Zero support from any democrat.
Many republicans want to see Obamacare repealed but are now willing to let democrats own their disaster and let it die as is.

Except that isn't the plan. They know the voters won't want excuses if it dies on their watch

Establishment Republicans have zero desire to repeal Obamacare. So rather then sit down, evaluate and come up with something that will benefit the low income in this county both side will stick it to the people.

Trump come directs the IRS refuse too enforce it.

Doubtful, if anything it would be the other way around. There is little chance of republicans loosing a majority in the House. Dems have nearly reached the bottom but still have a way to go.

Not if Republicans aren't going to fund it. When and if they stop hijacking the law, at that point in time is when Democrats own it again.

If outplaying them is shutting down their own constituents at the same time, sounds to me like the Democrats shut the party down from bragging about it. Not sure how that counts as outplaying Democrats?

Then why would I or you want to give $700 billion dollars of our money to the wealthy for them to spend then? Wouldn't that be pretty (*)(*)(*)(*) stupid?
