Yeah, it's no where near the ''safe space'' guys like Okie or Capps are representing it as. I still spend a lot of my time attacking the bigotry of others on matters of immigration or Islamic terrorism but the difference is I can have a debate on the issues rather than a name calling slanging match.
I think Liberal ideals are still in the minority and the left / right war is still the main topic of conversation but the site is large enough to support pragmatic thinking as well.
    Thanks for the recommendation Kath.

I like this site. It's got a larger community, and lots of diverse opinions, although it's somewhat lacking in rationality at times. The like thing is somewhat negative, as it's an easy way to just gang up on certain issues, and polarizing debates even further. It could work if there's a highly intelligent community, so we'll see how it goes.

Sadly, the shame on Japan thread died. And the animal rights sub forum is dead as the dodo. And even here, most of the focus regarding immigration seem to be on the whole Muslims/Mexicans are bad/good/neutral thingy, rather on the more important socioeconomical issues regarding immigration.

At the last forum, you really gave the people who started name calling way too much room for it. When people name call, and you call them out on it, and they don't stop it, they're really not worth the effort of responding. Stick to responding to people who at least tries to be respectful.

The flak you and Grumpycatface got, was way too much, and really uncalled for, for the most part. Hell, I'm probably leaning way further to the left than you two, but I never got the same treatment. Guess it's because I'm also leaning towards nationalism, like the worst kind of posters, so they never really saw me as "the enemy".

    Thanks for the invite btw.

I think liberal thinking is in the minority in the US right now. Even my can't-move-further-to-the-left friends are shying away from a whole lot of this SJW nonsense. It's admirable to want to lift minority groups up, and I completely support that. Their method of achieving that, though, is all about tearing other people down; a strategy doomed to fail.
Think of the "like" button as nothing more than a +1. I'm glad you made the trip over. I feel bad for MH, but it's just plain toxic over there.

I felt that as one of only a few Europeans and the sole Brit I had every right to stand up to some of the outrageous assertions made in the ''Europe, boring till......'' thread. In private communications Martin himself implored me to stop posting in it but to me that was just giving in to the ''bullying''.
However every time I tried I just got ''but no go areas and Sharia law'' and it became pointless. There were a few members who actually wanted to talk about the real issues in Europe including Nuke (surprisingly to some) but these conversations were always derailed by the usual suspects.
    Oh well, their loss......

There may be a few more of us yet, who knows, I do appreciate the more open debate here even if there are still plenty of the same kind of emotional rather than intellectual arguments.
At least reports of abuse are taken more seriously here and I see that just the threat of it often moderates the conversation.

The Mods do indeed take their positions seriously here and are pretty proactive when required.....fortunately they also allow for useful discussion that can border on shall we say....brutality.

My two favorite features here, that I've never had before, is the news feed (posts from people you follow, only,) and the way it saves your response in a thread as a draft. If you type something and change your mind, what you typed will still be there when you return to the thread, later. I love that!

Where is the news feed option? I have to search the posts in the people I follow's profiles to keep up with what they are saying.
I like the ignore function, I've only had to use it for one person but it is like he never existed, I get no alerts when he replies to me or a thread I'm watching and all his posts disappear without the option to open them.

Go to the drop down from your name (upper right hand corner.) It's the first link on the right on that drop down.

Not so much drama as dishonest debate for me.

The top 10 posters have over 50% of the posts; no fresh perspective. Mostly toxic. When you can't agree on facts, it's time to go.

I worked it out recently, it was only 6 members who had 50% of the total posts, that included GCF and me. It has gone pretty quiet now.......

So, is the conspiracy sub forum satire, or is it a containment board for crazy?

Seems like they believe the conspiracies. I've never met a serious flat Earther before, there is something seriously wrong with the US education system or the bible schools....
To be honest there seems to be just as many crazy and obnoxious posters here as there are at the MHF but with so many other, more reasonable, people to talk to the dickheads are easier to ignore.
