Hang on Mr Dutch. You posted:

I still say that because of everything that's going on -- including the worst pandemic disease to hit the world in a hundred years -- we need to SEAL THE BORDER SHUT TO ANY MORE 'MIGRATION' OF ANY KIND, PERIOD!

But, hell, even before the 'virus', Trump refused to do that -- so -- fat, fugging chance that any liberal Democrat is going to do it now!

    [IMG]. "Biden will save us!"

Please quote a Republican who claimed "Obama had open borders."

Actually, he will be taking a lot of naps as President Harris runs things. He's not going to last six months.

I'm sure Nancy Pelosi can house 50-60 on her own in her nice $20M Pacific Heights Tudor...

Why would you house asylum seekers? You must already be lawfully present in the United States to apply for asylum. Refugees apply for refugee status from outside the US. Most of the people arriving at the border do not qualify for refugee status. Merely living in a lousy country is not one of the qualifications.

It seems children in adult jails is a bad idea. What solution do you offer to prevent "kids being separated from their parents"?

You must be lawfully present in the United States to apply for asylum. It was once correctly called "political asylum" and was available to individuals who fit a very narrow set of criteria. Refugee-seekers are the ones who would arrive at the border and make an application, though technically you should apply from your home country to the next nearest country. So Venezuelans should apply to Brazil or Colombia, for example...

Why is it good when the international treaty to which the United States is a signatory specifically states refugees need to apply from their home country to the next nearest signatory?

US law says you have to be on our soil to apply for asylum.

Asylum, yes. Lawfully present. The "stay in Mexico" order to which you replied "good" applies to those seeking refugee status, which is applied for from outside the U.S., and technically to the next nearest signatory. So, coming from Panama to apply for refugee status in the U.S. is a breach of the international treaty governing asylum and refugee claims. Additionally, there are five narrow criteria to be eligible for either: Merely living in a lousy country is not one of them. So I ask again, why "good" ?

Does US law say, you can cross the border illegally to get on our soil?

A 5 year old is better than Trump. If Trump were just "corrupt", we would all be happy he's gone... we would expect to jail him, and we'd just say "good riddance".

Trump is much more than corrupt. He is corrupt AND 300 thousand Americans dead, AND he is undermining our democracy, AND he has divided Americans on stupid things like... masks!

My Guatemalan friend is a very educated person who is aware of the history of corruption in his country. But if you're going waste your time investigating this, you're going to have to give us much much more than just "corrupt". Because, at this point, Trump's corruption looks like a "small inadequacy" compared to the hundreds of thousands of dead his incompetence has caused.

And, here's another thing. You say they vote for the "least worst option"... Consider this: 70 million Americans... actual living, breathing and (supposedly) thinking human beings actually believed that Trump would be good for the job!

No! They got us beat by a mile. They might have to endure an idiot. But people know he's an idiot. Almost half of our voters don't even realize that Trump is an idiot.

My friend would have my head on a platter if I came and said "yeah... but you have a President under investigation for corruption"... Hah!

There is no way around it. Maybe if you looked at the whole world, and in all history you might find a handful of elected presidents worse than Trump ... but he is very close to the top of the list.

    Sure it is.
Migrant doesn't label legal or illegal.
And if they are wanted and hired by our corporations, or trumps corporations, are they really illegal? Just not documented. So the corporations, such as trumps, don't have to pay payroll taxes or benefits. They like that slave labor.

I would provide shelter for those needing it in the Southern Triangle. We can resume aid by building these shelters and providing direct aid as needed.

    They are seeking help.
The US can provide help to them directly instead of working through the local government.
Providing help locally means they don't have to travel to the US.

How is that not a win win?

Family detentions and much greater tracking of parents with children so we don't deport one without the other. Obviously DNA tests on everyone.
