Monday I went to the large and legendary used book store Dickson Street Books. It had gotten larger since I was there several years ago but it was literally like a man sized maze. Well organized but each aisle was only wide enough for a single person to get down at one time. So finding anything was difficult to impossible. I didn't buy a thing.

Then while Amy was organizing our luggage to bring down from the 3rd floor she got stuck in an elevator for some time.

Then when we finally got down to the SUV, Amy realized her keys were missing. I still had mine but Amy's key ring also had keys to the library where she works, Annalee's townhouse, and our house.

She found them eventually but she melted down and burst into tears half a dozen times. Which did nothing for my stress level.

We did a lot of talking about our Labor Day trip plans on the way home.

    All for the moment.

Finally this last Friday I had the so called "revision' surgery on my fistula in the left arm. I have the same anesthesiologist as last time and when I told him about how painful the nerve deadening was last time he made several adjustments. This wasn't nearly as painful when administered and even though I stayed awake during most of the procedure. Afterwards recovery has not been that difficult though my plunging blood pressure made my dialysis on Saturday difficult and painful. In fact my BP stayed so low (around 80/40) that I seriously worried about them releasing me even though they took me off the machine 30 minutes early. Fortunately I found a way to trick the BP cuff by tensing my legs as much as I could as soon as I felt the cuff start to inflate, this forced blood back into my upper body and gave me a pressure rating at least 20 points higher on both the top and bottom. Hopefully, Tuesday things will go better.

Tuesday is also the day my father in law Travis Lane goes to St. Vincents in Hot Springs for the procedure on his cancerous bladder. I don't know for sure what they are going for him but he seems to be looking forward to it.

It has been raining here off and own since the early morning hours which has reduced the temperature considerably.

Well, bad news for my father in law. His Bladder cancer has already spread to his Lymph Nodes. I don't expect him to live all that long. Spreading to the lymphatic system always seems to mean things are going fast. Amy of course doesn't want to even consider anything that indicates her dad is not going to live forever. My grandfather (daddy's side) developed Bladder Cancer when he was 83 years old (like my father in law). He lived for two years.

My father in law is going to have chemotherapy (my grandfather had radiation) and might eventually have his bladder removed. A highly dangerous procedure.

My dialysis went well today. Though I'm six kilos above my dry weight they only decided to pull 4 kilos of fluid from me and I can stand that easy enough. It is only when they get above 4.4 kilos that my blood pressure plummets and I feel so crappy the last hour of it.

Its has been a good week of dialysis overall though occasionally my blood pressure plummets in the last few minutes but using my muscle clinching technique I can always force it high enough that they have to let me leave. I then set in the truck several minutes extra waiting to recover.

I still haven't gotten hold of our contractor in order to find out when he is going to work on the house again. I did hire a man and his son to mow the yard up there. They did a really nice job mowing sections of it that I haven't mowed in a couple of years. Looks a lot nicer.

Dialysis on Saturday was dreadful. My blood pressure plunged in the last few minutes and I began retching severely but given the only think I had eaten was a protein bar there was nothing on my stomach to expel. Amy was wanting for us to drive up to Benton so she could pick up some of the crafting materials she had ordered. We only got as far Fordyce before I told her I didn't feel well enough to go any further. We came back home. Instead we went to Benton and later Little Rock after church on Sunday.

Amy went to church with me for the first time in ages. She saw Lynn Gardner's dogs for the first time. She made video of me petting Viola and her licking my face. She sent a copy of it to Annalee and Annalee was amazed at me messing with the huge dog (113 lbs.).

I had a doctors visit this afternoon. He said the fistula looked good and he was going to inform Davita Dialysis that they could start using it anytime.

I got a good surprise yesterday at Walmart. I encountered my former student and football player Kenneth Dixon and his little boy and girl. I didn't know he was back from Canada playing with the CFL.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenneth_Dixon_(American_football)

I remember watching him in a playoff game for the Baltimore Ravens a few years ago. He told me how much he learned in my classes at Strong. I've always been sentimental about Strong. It is one of the few schools I taught at where I'm still welcomed back.

I wish I could get up the energy to update My Diary more often. My last four hemo dialysis treatments have not gone well. Too high fluid levels leading to severe blood pressure drops about two hours into the three and a half hour treatment. On most days they haven't been able to draw as much fluid from my blood as they planned. They keep trying to draw out 5 kilos in an effort to get down to my "dry weight" of 100 kilos but due to my plunging blood pressure (60/30 or less is common) the hemo dialysis unit stops drawing fluid out of my blood and reinjects saline.

Annalee (our daughter) has moved up her wedding to Sept. 11, next month. Sept. 11th has special significance for our family as Amy and I officially met on Sept. 11, 1992.

Travis & Anne (Amy's parents) encouraged her to move her wedding up as Travis worries he might not live until Dec. 31, 2022. I'm convinced that Travis has deliberately downplayed how deadly his Bladder cancer is to the rest of his family.

Mine and Amy's overnight trip to Tyler, TX was an absolute delight. Much more enjoyable than our overnight trip to Fayetteville around July 4th. Almost everything went perfectly. We came back to Smackover on Sunday evening and after my dialysis on Monday we went to Sherwood (Annalee's) to retrieve Murphy who had stayed up there for four nights.

Murphy though she enjoys staying with Annalee really liked getting back home.

After three straight good dialysis treatments, mine Wednesday was nightmarish. My blood pressure never dropped low and they pulled a full. 3.8 kilos but after they disconnected me my blood pressure started plummeting severely. And I think my blood sugar was abnormally low. I had severe problems standing up and staggered out to the scale for my exit weight. I then literally staggered out the door to the truck nearly falling several times. I'm glad the technician had stopped watching me or she might not have let me go. I felt like hell for some time before I could drive home.

We're getting ready for Annalee's wedding Saturday (at 1:00 PM). Annalee has wanted to keep it a very small scale affair but it seems like extended family members keep weedling their way into coming. I wanted to die my goatee slightly darker so the gray wouldn't be obvious but Annalee vetoed that. So I guess I'm going to look every year of my 54 years. Oh well.

Twenty years. Tomorrow it will have been 20 years since momma died. Very hard to believe it has been a generation since momma died. Daddy was plunged into depression and loneliness. Fortunately he remarried 13 months later. His second wife (a couple of years older than dad) lived 9 years before she died as well. Then daddy ended up in an assisted living center in Texarkana after Virginia's children refused to let him to continue living in Virginia's house. Daddy died in February of 2017 at the age of 88.

Momma's death had a lot of effects on me. I probably wouldn't have become a teacher had it not been for momma dying. Daddy encouraged me to become one and later pointed out that momma would've been so proud that I was a teacher. Of course now I'm not teaching at all. Just walking around with a pair of dead kidneys.

Maybe that will change in the near future. The person at the dialysis center is proceeding with the paperwork to get me added to the transplant list.

Annalee's wedding went flawlessly except for Brandon dropping the ring at one point. But its flaws like that which make life more precious.

My last five consecutive dialysis treatments have all gone well. I've finally managed to keep my fluid buildup down to reasonable levels. I don't eat or drink hardly anything in the later half of the day before my dialysis and of course I don't have anything the morning before dialysis except an orange softdrink to keep my blood sugar levels up.

Last Monday they only had to pull something like 3.2 kilos of fluid out of my blood which is very good coming out of a weekend. And by Friday I had it down to only 2 kilos of fluid to drain from my blood. I still try to walk a mile the day before dialysis to sweat out extra fluids and reduce my weight gain overall.

I haven't been to a high school football game yet this season though given we're going to Sherwood to see Annalee this next weekend, we're taking the opportunity on Friday to go see Augusta play an 8 man football game. Better than nothing I suppose.

It rained heavily here and in several places that needed it last Monday. Fortunately it has cooled off a lot as well. This is good as I started driving the car to dialysis again and its AC is unreliable.

Our trip to the Sherwood and Little Rock area last weekend went very well despite very heavy rains and thunderstorms. We drove on up to Augusta on Friday to see Augusta's 8 man football game against Marianna Lee. Augusta was ahead 28 to 8 as halftime approached and the lights went out. The game was called not long after that.

Joe Grisham, the youngest of Ryan and Aprils kids was starting Quarterback and cornerback for Augusta. He played a major role in three of Augusta's four touchdowns. One was a long touchdown pass and two others were long TD runs. Joseph has been the most successful of Ryan four sons on the football field and he is proud beyond measure.

On Saturday evening we went up to Cabot and ate at the Purple Onion. Amy's choice for her birthday meal. I didn't buy but a couple of magazines at Barnes & Noble this trip. A copy of The Economist and another political/policy magazine. I was greatly disappointed in Arkansas's horrible performance vs. Georgia (lost 37-0). Maybe tomorrows game against Ole Miss will go better.

During an intense lightning storm, the electricity went off at Annalee's. Fortunately it came back after about 5 hours.

We went to church with Annalee and her in laws. It had been ages since I went to an Assembly of God church. It was about like any other except a woman was speaking in tongues (another language). I've never believed in tongues speaking and I still don't.

Last Friday we drove up to Camden to see the Camden Fairview/Magnolia game. We enjoyed it a great deal. Fairview won 44-25. Pretty decisively though we left when it was 41-18. I had considerable trouble getting up the bleacher steps even with the aid of my walking cane. Given it was crowded is one of the reasons we left early. So now I've seen most of two high school football games this season.

Three weeks ago after Arkansas beat Texas A & M to go 4-0 I thought this might be some kind of magical year for the Razorbacks but now of course they've come back to Earth, hard. Losing the last three in a row. Still it will be a significantly more successful season than last year.

Camden Fairview continues to win which is a good thing. Good to see Arkansas getting back on the winning track last week even though it was simply ridiculously easy win over UAPB. I was disappointed that Tampa Bay lost to New Orleans but found Dallas's win over Minnesota despite not having QB Dak Prescott to be inspiring.

It looks like it was turned permanently cooler for the season with no real signs of Indian Summer coming on.

I've got to go to Hot Springs on Thursday to have a fistulagram performed. My fistula has a narrow spot that needs to be addressed. Amy is going to the Hampton/Parker's Chapel game on Thursday night with her friend Kerrie Mean (wife of the Hampton football coach). I'll probably be worn out from the minor surgery and aftermath to go anyway. Friday Amy is leaving to go to Sherwood and spend the weekend with Annalee. Amy has finally settled on her grandmother name after lots of stressing over it. As for me, I don't care what our first grandbaby calls me. Toddlers will eventually settle on the name they want to use anyway.

The story I started working on off and on some time ago has grown to around 80 pages including the illustrations. Much of what I've written recently is about a fictional football game based loosely regarding my high school experienced. I enjoy writing though it can be a chore as well as a joy.

"chore as well as a joy". Sounds cool!. Somebody write that down please. Oh wait, something just did.

My fistula gram went well The most painless procedure I've had regarding my fistula ever. The lab report on the procedure came to the dialysis center this last Wednesday. It said my fistula was 70% closed off. They reopened it with Angio plasty (balloons). Had I not had that done it would've clotted up eventually and I might've had to have had a new fistula put in. At any rate, I've had dialysis four times since the fistula gram and the alarm on the hemo dialysis machine rarely goes off now for restricted blood flow.

Still I'm taking one hell of a beating from dialysis. My blood pressure has not been plunging. At least not during the dialysis itself. But a worrying problem is that as soon as the hemo dialysis machine is disconnected my blood pressure starts plunging eratically. I heard my technician and the nurses talking. It is worrying.

Amy and I are going to Texarkana tomorrow to each lunch with Debra (my oldest sister). She has been wanting to pay for our meal at The DugOut for some time now. She has a big batch of baby clothes from here youngest granddaughter (Luna) that she wants to send with us for Annalees babby (Ellery). I don't want to go really given the hideous cost of gasoline but I really can't turn down an opportunity to see one of my sisters.

We went to Hampton to see Hamptons first round playoff game against Hazen. Their coach (Doug Means) being a former boss and friend of mine and his wife (Kerry) being one of Amy's best friends. The game was a disaster for Hampton. Hazen beat them 50-6 and it wasn't even that close. Lots of the Hampton fans were angry at Doug and I felt for him.

Regular gun deer season started today in Arkansas though I haven't heard how well it has gone. Amy's dad was going back to his hunting land this week. He had hunted with a Muzzleloader up there the week before last.

Thanksgiving went well up at my oldest sisters house in Texarkana. Got to see all three of my sisters. All of their kids. All of their kids, kids, And only one of my three brothers in law. They had a baby shower for Annalee after it was over. All in all a very enjoyable trip. Didn't get to see any Thanksgiving football but given that Dallas lost in overtime I didn't mind. Arkansas beating Missouri on Friday decisively was very welcome.

All the high school teams I wanted to see win were beaten out of the playoffs so there is nothing left in high school football in Arkansas to interest me.

Dialysis has gone well since my fistulagram. I don't have to hold my arm perfectly still to keep the alarm on the hemo dialysis machine from going off. Starting today they switched me to a different "pod" (a pod is a grouping of four hermo dialysis machines). I actually used to be in that pod but my assigned seat/machine was a different one than I had used before. They told me I was going to be assigned to that spot for awhile.

Annalee's pregnancy continues without problems though the speed at with Ellory is growing is somewhat troubling. Her size is already estimated by the doctor at more than 6 lbs! Needless to say the prospect of giving birth to an enormous baby are troubling to her.

    I'm a GRANDPA!!!!

Ellory Boston Worley born just after midnight on Thursday December 16, 2021.

Annalee thought she was in labor Sunday night but after her husband took her to the hospital they sent her home.

Then Tuesday she felt something was wrong and she went to the hospital again. They diagnosed here with Pre Eclampsia and it appeared likely that they would induce labor or perform a Ceasarion as that is a common practice when the baby is plenty developed and can of course survive. They induced labor on Tuesday night and it seemed like she took forever to progress to delivery. Amy went up there on Wednesday to be with her and Amys brother and sister in law on their way back from Branson stopped by as well.

I basically fidgeted and worried all day Wednesday and into the in the night. I slept only until 3:30 then got up and checked my texts and saw that Amy had texted me "We are grandparents!"

I later learned that Annalee had Ellory naturally and she weighed 7 lbs. 15 ounces. A near perfect size. I've been waiting for this moment for years. Amy has wanted another baby to love on for right at 20 years and her only hope of that was a grandbaby. Hopefully Annalee and Brandon will have several babies.

Annalee came down with appendicitis and had to have her appendix remove on Tuesday. She had it removed early Tuesday and was sent home the same day. Fortunately Brandon doesn't have to go back to work until Friday and Amy is going up there on Friday to help take care of Ellory. In the meantime, Brandon's father and stepmother came and took Ellory home with them to take the burden off of Annalee. Ironically, when Annalee was four weeks old, Amy had to have her gallbladder remove so Amy's parents came and took Annalee home with them.

I'll be so glad when Ellory is a few months old and I feel fine holding her. We went up to see them this last Sunday though I worried about getting too tired. My subsequent dialysis on Monday was absolutely agonizing. It took about 45 minutes for Sarah (the RN) to get my needles in right so the machine could start pulling blood. Fortunately today went far better.

Poor Annalee. A bad time for a neonate to be taken away from her mother.
I hope your daughter recovers without any complications.
Only a day for an appendicectomy! In the olden days, you’d be in hospital for ten days!

I was in the hospital two days with mine in 1997 but I had to have an exploratory surgery while Annalee's was done laparoscopically. Though her appendix was like mine. Curled around the back of the intestine.

Don't know why I can't get pictures to load on this forum correctly. I've got so many good ones. I love Ellory's "hangry face".

Brandon is in his first week of State Police training so Amy is staying up there this week. I drove her up there after my dialysis on Monday and after I get out of dialysis on Friday I'm going to go get her. Amy texted me yesterday that Ellory had gotten spoiled to someone holding her all the time so she gets upset if you try to put her down. I suggested that they not feel compelled to put her down just because they don't want her to become spoiled. Amy's family used to advise her not to hold Annalee so much and within a few year Amy regretted not holding her as much.

Monday was weird at dialysis. I weighed in at over 109 kilos. Six kilos over my dry weight. That's the heaviest I've ever been since starting dialysis. The couldn't pull the full 6.4 kilos that I weighed over so they pulled 5.5 kilos and I left at 104.4 kilos. 1.4 kilos over my dry weight. So I tried to be much more disciplined about what I ate and drank on Tuesday and today I weighed in at only 107.4 kilos. Only 3.4 over my dry weight despite starting out 1.4 heavy. They easily managed to pull all 3.4 kilos and bring me down to dry weight before I left today. I'm uncertain why I was so unexpectantly heavy on Monday and so unexpectantly light today.

My niece (my sister Deanna's daughter) who lives here in Smackover came over with hamburgers she had cooked for us for supper this evening. We ate burgers and talked quite a bit. I enjoyed it. She also does our taxes.

Nothing much else to report today. All for now.

Brandon has Covid. I wonder if he caught it at State Police training? I was worried that it would impact his training schedule dramatically but when he called his supervisor on Sunday they told him to go ahead and come back. Don't know how that is working out

Annalee is hyperstressed by Ellory. Ellory wants to be held constantly and of course Annalee can't do that. Most upsetting, especially for Amy and her extended family is that Annalee decided not to come to the Lane family Christmas at Courtney's (Amy's niece) at Hot Springs this Saturday.

I was going to call her on Monday and gently try to persuade her to come but Brandon having Covid of course put paid to that. I started my new schedule for dialysis on Monday. 3 o' clock. I didn't get out until 6:48 and it was of course dark. The good thing was that I only weighed 3.2 kilos over my dry weight so it was easy to pull me down to dry weight. I don't like having dialysis that late but I have no choice.

The last couple of days have been much warmer than usual. I don't mind that but I fear the other shoe is about to drop. It started raining late this afternoon rather gently.

I'm upset that Tom Brady decided to retire. I was hoping he would keep playing until he won at least 10 Super Bowls. Of course I'm no fan of this Super Bowl matchup. I care for neither team though since Cincinnati has never won a Super Bowl and because of Joe Burrow I'm slightly in favor of the Bengals winning.

No one agrees about the best ways to bring up children.

Just one more dialysis treatment this week. The first two went pretty well. The only two bad things are the lack of good television at that time a day and having to drive home at night.

We managed to pick up Amy's repaired SUV this morning. I thought there was an alternator problem but he said there was only some closeness in the battery wires. Fortunately that didn't cost us too much.

Annalee called this morning and we talked for nearly a half an hour. Annalese is looking forward to seeing us this Sunday. This will be the second Super Bowl Sunday in a row I've spent part of at Annalees' Ellory does the cutest thing. If Annalee lays her down in the crib she starts fussing very loudly. But if Annalee lays her on the floor she doesn't fuss. Apparently she knows that Annalee will not leave her laying on the floor any length of time. She knows her momma will be coming back foran her soon.

Annalee happened to say something that made me feel so happy during her call. She said "I hope our next one is a boy". I had worried that Annalee might only want to have one baby so it does my heart good to think Annalee and Brandon might want to have another. I have always been disturbed by what I read about when an only child (like Annalee) has just one child. That child will have no brothers, no sisters, no aunts, no uncles, and no cousins. Which I found unsettling.

    All for the moment.

If your first child is a “howler”, it can deter you from a second. Annalee sounds too sensible to think this.
