It's going to be interesting to see what this democrat congress does over the next two years. It seems split into two factions. The old guard led by Pelosi seems more moderate and forward thinking ( never thought I'd say that) while the new kids on the block are fired up and out for blood. I think Nancy is right and if they pursue impeachment charges they doom their party in 2020. She may have to knuckle under and go this route in order to retain her house leadership though. She also has to consider the fact that democrat voters overwhelmingly want impeachment charges brought against Trump. Going to be a fun two years watching the democrats in congress in their circular firing squad.

The old faction created the new faction to seem more moderate. It's just another ruse to keep the old dem leadership in power. It's time rid ourselves of BOTH factions, that being leftists.

True that the old faction created the new faction along with the majority of democrats that gave been convinced Trump is pure evil. Now the old faction is being consumed by the monster they themselves created. They know pursuing impeachment is politicle suicide but they may have to do so to feed the beast they created before it feeds on them.

Now there are extreme Progressives taking control, like Warren, Harris, and many others in their party, and it's going to be a challenge to keep this scorched Earth faction that has created the New Democratic Party from self immolation.

 

There is no big delima. All is going to be based on Mueller's report first.

The youngsters want to open new investigations on trump which tells me the democrats have been informed Mueller has nothing on Russian collusion. The base has been convinced by the old guard that Trump is the devil and if they don't try everything under the sun to impeach him the base will be outraged. You can't leave the devil in power so the democrats will be forced down this path to placate the angry beast they created and that will be political suicide. If they don't try to impeach the base will turn on them so that to will be political suicide. Democrats have put themselves in a no win position here.

I agree with your Pelosi assessment, though we shall see. But old guards like Nadler, Waters, Cummings, and many others are far from moderate and avidly in favor of impeachment.

I think they'll basically run endless investigations into irrelevant details and hope to swing 2020. Impeachment won't result in removal from office, so why bother. Take the high ground and play it slow.

Would be the smart thing to do. They definitely won't do this.

 

You do realize that the tRump Party is a box that no one wants in, that isn't already there. And a good portion that are in, are old and dying. There is no future for it.

In the coming two years, the primary power struggle will be between smart Nancy and dumb Donald. Watch for her to manipulate him into opposing the Republican Senate.

Adam Schiff has been complaining that the House Republicans have been blocking things, hiding the incompetence and corruption that is at the core of the tRump administration. If the Mueller report shows overriding corruption, even the Republican Senate will oust him, as with a Democratic House, they aren't going to pass any of their crazy things anyhow. And Pence will give them the same corrupt judges.


In any case, I expect tRump to spin out of control before 2020. Either because he becomes frustrated, unable to get congress to back him, or from the pressure of mounting revelations of his wrong doing.

The poor character of tRump is becoming more and more obvious. You know when people first meet, and fall in love, there is something that happens in people's brains. It makes the object of their love appear greater than perhaps they truely are. This effect tends to fall off, after a couple of years.

Often, when people first meet, they tend to pretend that they are greater than they really are. If the target becomes emotionally attached, it works, for awhile. Eventually they begin to see the warts, and the lies.

The economy has been running on Obama's dime. Ever since the Republicans instituted their new tax scheme, the stock markets have mostly stagnated. Debt is increasing. Even after tariff after tariff, the Chinese trade deficit continues to grow. tRump thinks that he is hurting China, not realizing that it is American consumers, by way of higher prices, who are paying for the tariffs. Farmers are being hit especially hard.

The next two years are sure to be fun.

This is an interpretation of Pelosi's position on impeachment. She knows that she has to answer to what is factual right now and not what may be one day. Right now we have not seen the final result of Mueller's investigation, so if she were to say she favors impeachment, the right would do what they've done with others who said that. They would scream "PARTISAN WITCH HUNT!!!" and do everything possible to discredit and weaken her. So she isn't giving them the chance because she is too smart. She will wait until the facts point to the need.

Dems are going to be disappointed when they do stuff like subpoena Trump's tax returns and he ignores it, exactly like Eric Holder did.

Based upon the findings of the Mueller probe, she may not have a choice. I am not saying that will happen. I am saying there is a possibility that Mueller's report will force her hand.

If Mueller finds that Trump and his campaign team collaborated with the Russian government, the House will be forced to impeach. It is possible, because of the traitorous nature of the crime, that the Republican controlled Senate may actually convict.

Pure speculation, of course.

Nothing new here. It was not that long ago we had talk in the house of impeaching Bush for dragging us into the Iraq war and waterbarding, Pelosi squashed that too. She is not a fan of futile gestures that suck up so much time and energy of three branches of government. She remembers what a waste of time Hyde's impeachment debacle was.

There will be more than enough investigating to please the progressives. There will not be a single article of impeachment that gets out of any House committee as long as Pelosi has the gavel. She knows how to stack a committee. She knows how to pick her committee chairs and she knows how remove one.
