NATO

So, the USSR and Soviet Communism have been dead for almost 28 years now. Yes, there are several "commie" countries (like Venezuela, Cuba and N. Korea) left in the world but hardly a threat for Capitalism. China is not really a Commie country anymore.
On the other hand we have the rise of Islam - almost 2 billion people, 1/4 of world population. To put it in simple words, Islam is not compatible with Western values. It is an existential threat to the (post)Christian and secular world. It is a threat for all non-Muslim civilizations for that matter.

The question is, now that Communism is no longer a threat, who should NATO defend the West against?

 

Your simple words are simply wrong. People really need to stop whigging out about Islam. It's fine, Muslims are fine, we're doing fine with Muslims living here. It's fine. It really is. It's fine.

In fact, it's the non-Muslim terrorists who seem to enjoy attacking Muslims (and Jews, as it happens) who worry me.

Oh, and as for what NATO should be, it should remain what it is now - a mutual defense and security agreement. That's all. It's there to deal with any significant threat should it arise. Islam is not such a threat, though, to be clear.

nato should be a military alliance of democratic nations. Article 5 is a rather powerful deterrence for all bad actors.
