Wow. That's downright evil. Using 9/11 as a political tactic to bypass the democratic process?

That's indefensible. Just mindblowing that this was considered acceptable.

I saw some of the D reps complaining about this.... Just ridiculous... There are only 2 ways to organize votes in Republican controlled bodies..

    1. Lie and misdirect
    2. Install Mitch McConnell

Let me be the first to predict a "typical" Trumpie response.

"Where are the Dems? Shouldn't they be in the chamber preparing for votes"

    Facism... that's all it is...

    Doesn't sound like it's over...

    SNIP
Now it goes to the state senate, where Republicans need one Democrat to join their ranks to officially override the veto.

“Basically, we have to stand guard on the floor,” Democratic state Sen. Jeff Jackson said.
    ENDSNIP

May I suggest campfires and sleeping bags?? This crap isn't going to fly twice...

Dang, I was so much hoping to wake up and see all the creative ways my conservative friends were going to try to defend this behavior...

Was a busy day yesterday, what with 9/11 and Trump essentially disowning parental responsibility towards his youngest 'son' and formal Impeachment beginning today.

Doesn't this story truly represents the pattern of MAGA?? You must be proud today!

I wondered how much attention this would get and even I'm kind of astounded that this is going uncommented on. Even by the LW portion of the board. If a democrat had tried to do this, you would see RW heads exploding a-la Kingsman.

It's just shocking and disgusting tactics and the fact that they are hand-waved (or ignored entirely) is ****ing disgusting. I'm never forgetting this one and will use it at every opportunity to lay bare the absolutely despicable state of the Republican movement.

I actually got into a political argument over this with my 17 year old, and we argue about almost nothing..

I told him the story and he goes 'Is that illegal'?? WTF!! That's not the point.... No, in fact, it's probably not illegal (although the Gov of NC said he thought it could be illegal on TV last night - I'll defer to him), but it has to be one of the most unethical things I've heard of since I joined this forum...

When did N. Carolina turn into it's own banana republic?? They are physically close to me, I have relatives who live there, and I've vacationed there probably 5 times in my life..

Unfortunately, there used to be a respect for the institutions of Govt that is slowly disappearing in the face of those desperate for power over anything else. Reid and the Nuclear Option. McConnell with the NuclearNuclear option, Boris and his attempts to prorogue govt without an election, etc..etc..

It used to be that you didn't have to worry about the 'legality' of such things because nobody in their right mind would actually do it because once you have to start legislating every single bit of ethical behavior in Govt then your just going to feed the beast where everything changes every 2/4/6/8 years.

But until people actually want to give a crap (which it seems that nobody else here does), then whats the point?

Boris Johnson, Reid, McConnell, NC legislature, etc., all demonstrate respect for the democratic process is broken.

    I think . . . and I hope I am wrong . . . that the Republic into which I was born is dead.

We are headed to one-party rule.

They promised not to bring a vote, and then used the fact that the Governor went to 9/11 memorials (along with the Dems who actually gave a crap about remembering that day) and they snuck in a vote without telling anyone. That's a bypass of the democratic process.

Not really, the Gov has nothing to do with overriding a veto

Yes, really, and I think it is going to cost the GOP in NC dearly.

I'll admit, I had to re-read this to see it was Republicans who pulled this stunt, and not Democrats.

Democrats had been warned repeatedly that if they kept playing dirty, one day the Republicans would fight fire with fire.

This just looks like the next step in the street fight the Democrat's started.

Nonsense, Libby. The GOP started it against Bill Clinton and got whopped. Then Bush somehow was elected in 2000, and the GOP got whopped in 2008 and 2012 and 2018. They are going to get whopped again next year.

It's his veto they overrode. And it wasn't just the Govenor, it was the dem caucus too.

The Rs lied to the Dems and hoodwinked them while they were out at 9/11 rememberances.

You would have a point but most of the major items being done are by republicans: stuff like this, the majority of gerrymandering, refusing to hear a SCOTUS appointment, shutting down polling places, purging voters, electoral fraud, attempting to limit the power of newly elected representatives, the list goes on an on.

Democrats stole a candy bar once because republicans refused to work with them and in retaliation republicans robbed the store and then burnt it down. They are working on the rest of the county piece by piece.

It was the Gov's veto the R's overrode. Their right, yes, to do so, but I wonder just how much their lack of integrity in failing to keep promises will impact next year's election.
