I'm hoping that Putin's experience with this invasion and its repercussions will serve as a cautionary tale for any others who wish to do the same in the future.

 

If we're successful, it should make Putin reconsider any additional expansion activities (though he doesn't seem to be a rational actor at this point). And, if we're successful, it will probably make China more hesitant about their ambitions with Taiwan.

Yeah, the Swiss have a strong deterrence policy that has kept many a invaders from even thinking about Switzerland. When our framers formed this country, I think they envisioned us being Switzerland-lite. For better or worse, we don't have the luxury of Swiss neutrality or independence.

That they stayed neutral while Hitler was deliberately exterminating an entire people with pest control chemicals would suggest that it's the Swiss's waning interest in neutrality that has prompted this, not Putin being worse than any world leader since 1815.

Putin is not Hitler, not yet anyway. Invasion of countries was not Hitler's primary crime, mass genocide and the final solution were.

I for one am disappointed by this change in the Swiss, as I was when they joined the UN. They had the ideal view on war and entangling alliances and now it looks like they're changing that.

 

Is Taiwan a NATO member? I wonder what our response would actually be should China decide to force that issue.

Definitely not, just as Ukraine isn't. And, as with Ukraine, we probably wouldn't intervene militarily beyond providing arms. But there's a reason China is hesitant to fully back Russia's invasion.

 

We're far too big, with a culturally diverse population, to be anything like Switzerland.

 

The parallels between what Putin is claiming as his reason for "liberating" Ukraine's Russian-speaking citizens and Hitler's excuses for invading Poland, are quite glaringly obvious. Hitler claimed that Poland was mistreating its German-speaking citizens.

Because there are more ways to react than just direct military intervention. Were you honestly under the impression that the threat of military force (which doesn't even really exist) is the reason China hasn't taken over Taiwan already?

Continue the NATO bashing, tell our allies they are taking advantage of us, and blackmail Zelensky from time to time to smear the Democrats.

He reasonably critiqued NATO, he never appeased Putin and was actually harder on him than Obama. And Zelensky, and Ukraine in general has proven quite corrupt as has Brandon’s traitorous activities with Ukraine.

See, that's where I disagree. We need to find a way for cultural unison, to be like Switzerland. We could be the most economically powerful machine on earth. We *were* that. This idea of "well, we've just got to accept it". That's what a lot of voters have had enough of. Was Trump the wrong choice? Probably, but someone's gonna rise up to be the right choice.
