"Many groups bear responsibility for the recent chaos in American cities: the rioters themselves, police departments and unions that fail to discipline bad cops, politicians who deliberately enflame resentment and hotheaded social-media influencers.

Add another group to the mix: gangsters, who for decades have turned many inner-city, mostly African-American neighborhoods into war zones.

The Bloods, Crips, Gangster Disciples, Vice Lords and other such factions draw cops into black neighborhoods — often at the urging of black citizens. These gangs commit a large share of the thousands of gun crimes in our cities. Even during the pandemic, gangsters have continued to kill black men across the country. Though gangs make up a small minority of urban America’s young men, they have an outsize influence over the relationship between cops and black communities."

Quite an interesting article and really goes to the heart of the issue of Police and black community interactions. Anyone here disagree with it?

They ask, in the article, if anything can be done to reduce the gang populations and influence in the urban areas where they thrive. And their answer is to get artists to speak up and out against gangs. There is no mention of the schooling and housing in those areas and the opportunities lacking for kids growing up in those areas. So if they truly want to talk about getting to the heart of the matter, those subjects were sadly lacking.

AND then we comeback to the issue of Democrat control of these cities for decades.

I don't disagree about gangs being a big problem, but harsh policing is not the best solution. Funding for infrastructure, better schools, after-school programs, and more small neighborhood businesses in the communities where the gangs rule the streets wpuld be better. It would give them some hope that there is a way to improve their lives that doesn't involve drugs and guns.

Ties back to your response There is no mention of the schooling and housing in those areas and the opportunities lacking for kids growing up in those areas. So if they truly want to talk about getting to the heart of the matter, those subjects were sadly lacking. Gangs grow due to Democrat instructional racism cloaked in the garb of 'social programs' that do little if any good but foster the feeling of hopelessness and hatred.

Also need to change the power structure in these cities as 30+ years of one party rule hasn't worked.

This goes beyond the Democrat/Republican narrative. This is not the time to try to assign blame. We need real solutions.

There is no political will to wipe out the gangs. Any attempt to do that will be called racist.

    This is our new normal.

Could you please explain how that works, and give examples of Democratic policies in this regard? Thanks.
