that's like claiming the first person who ever threw a paper airplane...flew.

or that the first person to ever attempt the long jump...flew.

that flight means nothing if it's not controlled and sustained.

Thus the Wright Brothers get the credit and accolades and Pearse is merely a footnote in history.

just so I'm clear...glider flight means nothing, because powered flight is the key.

However...uncontrolled and unsustained powered flight (Pearse) is acceptable!??

    :bored:

do you ever get tired of me owning you on this board??

I have spoken in an erstwhile fashion about our great PHARMACeutical system that provides largely free drugs to all New Zealanders.

US drug manufacturers hate it because (a) it gives Pharmac the purchasing power to drive down prices and (b) Pharmac is not dazzled by the latest American inventions and searches for generics that do the same job.

There is also a third reason which is probably what is really driving the American urgency to dismantle this model as part of a quid pro quo in the proposed free trade agreement.

American drug companies are terrified other countries will adopt the NZ model. In itself, NZ is not a problem. But its leadership is. And that's really why they want to nip any notions of sensible purchasing in the bud.

Sensible "socialised" medicine destroys the massive profits US drug companies, and the rest of the US medical profession, likes to make. So what if the per capita cost of health care is three times New Zealand's.

The first fatal airplane crash occurred on September 17, 1908. Orville Wright was piloting the plane. Wright survived the crash, but his passenger, Signal Corps Lieutenant Thomas Selfridge, did not. The Wrights had been allowing passengers to fly with them since May 14, 1908.

Followed by the first Lawsuit filed for pilot error by family of deceased passenger.:)

It is such good fun when we see Americans compulsively claiming credit for inventions they didn't think of.

I suppose they will next be claiming the jet boat.

Huh? I haven't been able to figure out how to post a video.

If I did, I am sure it would debunk something.

Aminah Mohamed, the first contestant to be eliminated from New Zealand's Next Top Model came to New Zealand at the age of eight, fleeing from war and oppression in Somalia. She is now 23.

She has grown up burqa-free, without female circumcision, and has reached the highest level of tawdriness Americana can inflict on anyone - a Top Model contest.

    But ...

    She should know.

Perhaps a career in the New Zealand Prostitutes Collective might be the next lucrative job opportunity after modeling and psychology degrees are finished.

New Zealanders are a fickle bunch. A few years ago only 29% of them thought that America was bearable - thanks to the toys it made, I guess.

Now more do. Thanks to the toys it makes, I guess.

I misled you. Americans no longer make toys. They just import them from China which knows better than Americans how to amuse Americans.

So why do NZders consider Americans less insufferable than they used to?

You can put it down to the Obama factor. This gives some NZders the illusion of hope that America will stop creating world-wide mayhem that serves only to keep its rich rich.

I am sure Americans will be fascinated to hear that our ethnic population has not one but two political parties represented now in our parliament.

How do they do it? I hear AmeriIndians mutter.

Now one of its tobacco companies is trying to strong-arm the Australian government in order to keep selling its poison to as many victims as possible. Expect the US government to get in behind.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/06/26/philip-morris-fights-aust_n_884913.html

But knowing the Australians, Phillip Morris has picked the wrong adversary. They are not going to hand their sovereignty over to a US purveyor of poisons any more than the New Zealand government did (it introduced the same measures years ago).

... the city of Christchurch has been thoroughly trashed by its earthquakes.

The city centre is virtually demolished. 10,000 homes (so far) in the suburbs are assessed as no longer inhabitable. Thousands more no doubt will be. Infrastructure has been extensively damaged; land made unusable; and historical buildings destroyed.

The costs of restoring the city will be upwards of $20 billion. That makes it the most costly natural disaster in terms of GDP (8%) of any other (Japan's is only 3%). But the money is there.

The time is not. Experts are talking about 15-20 years to fully restore the city. That seems reasonable. In Kobe it took the Japanese 3 years just to remove the rubble after their 1995 quake.

So did Icarus, and like your Kiwi, he crashed. It is appropriate that your national bird is flightless.

Wow! New Zealand segregates its ethnics into seperate political parties and Awryly thinks that is something to be proud of. In the United States, our ethnic minorities don't have to form seperate political parties since they are welcomed into all the other political parties. We have white Americans, black Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans, Native American Americans, Indian sub-continent Americans, and many more members of minority groups represented in our government as full members of our political parties without having to seperate themselves into some little ethnic enclave. Are you really proud that New Zealand has become Balkanized?
