    Your child is born.
Then your friends and relatives always ask about weight height if the infant.
This just kills me - why do you need to know that? What difference does it make to you if my child is 7 pounds or 8 pound? Does the height of 16 inches or 17 inches make a difference to anyone?

I think the difference to those people of whether I have 1 kid or 2 kids is significant, but the difference in weight and height is an insignificant piece of information that irritates me when I’m in the hospital and in the last 48 hours had a grand total of 5 hours of sleep.

    Any thoughts?

People being polite and showing interest as required socially. There really are few other questions to ask.

Why not? Such questions show care and concern.

It's just curiosity, and is just part of the new child conversation. It's interesting to them.

I agree! Some folks appreciate the concern. I find it annoying. Its the same as all other pointless idle chat. Its sociable people finding an excuse to be sociable.

Just be polite and answer their questions. Theres really no way to tell sociable people that you're not sociable without them taking it personally. They just don't understand, and thats how they show they care.

It's a better question than "so what did you and the newborn do this weekend?".

Because weight for babies is important for their health. A baby too light could die.
