A question posed by Rabbi Yeshua - Jesus to both his disciples as well as
a number of Pharisees and Scribes indicates that he taught that an extreme
set of circumstances can make drastic measures relatively ethical.

An apology to all members of the military and police!

I just want to say that I am truly sorry for all those years that I was close to believing in near total pacifism! Rabbi Jesus/Yehoshua once asked a question of the Scribes and Pharisees that should have made it obvious to me that an extreme situation can call for drastic action by a Christian or Jew who feels called into a life in the military or police!

    Mark 3:4
"And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace."
I am almost certain that Rabbi Jesus/Yehoshua was referring to the situation faced by the Machabees when Greco - Syrian armies were attacking Jewish communities on the Sabbath.

One community had refused to fight back....but the Machabees....in my opinion correctly judged that this is a violation of an admonition by King Solomon:

    Ecclesiastes 7:16
"Be not righteous over much; neither make thyself over wise: why shouldest thou destroy thyself?"

Douay-Rheims Catholic Bible, First Book Of Machabees Chapter 2
    ...
"So they gave them battle on the sabbath: and they were slain with their wives, and their children, and their cattle, to the number of a thousand persons. [39] And Mathathias and his friends heard of it, and they mourned for them exceedingly. [40] And every man said to his neighbour: If we shall all do as our brethren have done, and not fight against the heathens for our lives, and our justifications: they will now quickly root us out of the earth.

[41] And they determined in that day, saying: Whosoever shall come up against us to fight on the sabbath day, we will fight against him: and we will not all die, as our brethren that were slain in the secret places."

Judging from the Democratic debates, I think the the person who should lead the party is Jim Webb.

No thanks. Hillary was one of history's most qualified candidates in terms of experience, but the American people under the Electoral College system, rejected her. She's stated publicly she's finished as an elected candidate, and I agree. Let's move on to new possibilities.

John McCain is what the Republican Party was before it got hijacked by the ultra-right fanatics. Instead of shifting Democrats more toward the right, why not purge the Republican Party of its ultra-right wingnuts and swing it back toward center and regain some balance there?

Yes, I know. But McCain isn't the only living moderate former Republican.

They are losing influence fast-and I suspect there will be even fewer after the mid terms.

Dems are in a far worse place.

I suggest that the two points you make combined put the U.S. in a precarious place politically and possibly threaten the stability of a political system that has been incredibly successful for over 200 years. If so, I also suggest it's time for us as a people to start caring and making the changes necessary to get it back on track in a healthy, functional sense. We need more moderates on both the right and left who can work together for the actual benefit of the country and its people. This trend toward increasing fanaticism on the right is a dead end in every way you can imagine, for they are a minority hell-bent on ignoring the dreams and aspirations of the majority in their never-ceasing quest to obtain what they want for themselves. That doesn't work in ANY society.

Because the left is as far off center as the right.

The best choice is not in the poll and unlikely to take the Job anyway, though he would probably heavily motivate and possibly save the Party if he did.

    Joe Kennedy.

Could you elaborate a bit? Your comment as posted leaves me wondering what your main point is or in what context it is intended.

I agree, but personally, I'd like the entire ultra-conservative, Alt-Right Republican Party go back to wherever they came from and fade away. They are TOO EXTREME for the health and well being of the nation.

I remember a time when major candidates from both parties tended toward the center line politically. Many voters expressed exasperation that there was not difference between the parties. Today, after several decades of the Republican Party moving ever more toward the right, the center-line "moderate" Republicans have almost become extinct, and we voters are offered no choice from Republicans other than extremism far-right. The Democratic Party still has a mixture of right-wing conservatives, center-line moderates and leftists, though there has been a gradual (slower) move toward the left by Democrats as a counter to the Republican movement. Personally, I regard the ever increasing cacophony from the Alt-Right Republicans as a form of fascist fanaticism that is historically and socially most assuredly Non-American. The Democrats have responded to this strange extemeism by trending leftward, but to a far lesser degree. The mirror opposite of facism is communism, and I know of no Democrat in office now who claims to be a communist, and only one that has openly admitted to being a socialist, which is far less extreme.

Their legacy is the worst case of mindless political obstructionism in American history. They are a continuing embarrassment to any thinking American.

I may have answered wrong. I wanted to know how the moderate wing of the party has been good for America and what is their legacy.
