I got pretty good at Spanish with Dualingo. I recommend that one. Does anyone know of an app that is possibly better?

China is not doing things like dumbing down math. They are the new pioneers of the future. Its time to accept our new lords.

Duolingo is probably a good choice for Chinese too. People have recommended HelloChinese as a good app. I have consider taking a Mandarin night course at a local community college because my company will cover the cost but right now I do not have the time. I tried learning a bit a Chinese a few years ago before visiting China but had very little luck. Beyond greetings and basic polite phrases which I am sure I messed up because of the smiles I got, I had no luck understanding what was being said to me. My favorite experience my going into a Starbucks in Beijing and found I could said Grande coffee frappuccino and they totally understood me.

They are neither the most advanced nor the most dominate.

They are neither calorie nor energy independent.
Their domestic markets cannot absorb their output.
Their entire economy depends on exports that must traverse a single easily blocaded coast.

We are used to our open coasts on both sides, easy access to open ocean. China is not so fortunate. It's coast is dotted with islands that must be threaded through to reach open ocean, for both export and import. Naval Powers need only to fill the gaps and they can shut down China's economy like you're slamming a cork into a bottle.

China has a long history of revolts. When the nation is well fed the regime is presumed to have the mandate of heaven. When the people begin to starve, they overthrow the government and slaughter them.

The regime's survival depends on shipping.

If a foreign country invaded, most Americans wouldn't resist. The age of red dawn is over. Patriotism and nationalism is now viewed as bad things by large swaths of the American populations. Hating one's own country has become a fad.

Most Americans would eagerly accept their new masters.

What gives anyone the idea that China is 'most advanced" or "dominant"?

My son is studying Chinese in college, but he got an early start and got a tutor before that.

It's not an easy language to learn. You have to learn to differentiate the various tones that they use in the language.

I'll ask him if there is a good app for it.

The Chinese have the most advanced virology labs in the world so look for them to fine tune them to only infect non-Asiatic people. You'll know it when it's happening.

You said best place, not best app. I suggest China Town in San Francisco or NYC, in that order.

Due to their partnership with russia, China had hypersonic missiles before us. Their air to air missiles have more range than ours. They also have Russian SAMS. As well as carrier killer missles.

For the price of one carrier, they could make enough missles to whulipe out the US navy 10 times over

And unlike Russia, China has the actual funds to do this.

Not to mention, China can send our entire population worth of people to invade, and they would still have over 1 billion people. It would be a good thing for China even if they all died fighting. Because they have an overpopulation problem.

What makes you think the Chines (or the Russians) have hypersonic missiles?

    They don't. No country does.

And so called "carrier killer" missiles have never been used in combat. So there is no guarantee they'll actually work.

Where do you get your supposed information?

A quick Google search will show you that Russia has entered their hypersonic missiles into production late 2017. They tested it in 2018. China took that technology and made their own. Testing their missile just a year later

Because science.org is a reliable source and I am not biased. Where I behave like an npc and automatically dismiss anything that doesn't conform with my world views.

Despite all the corruption and lies spewed by our defense agency here in the US, you have no problem eating up all their crap. But the moment some other country comes up with something, you automatically dismiss them. Calling them untrustworthy.

    It's hilarious

That we are more dominant. Despite all the evidence

    Conversation so far

    China is more dominant:

    You: why?

Lists all the ways China is more dominant:
They have better missiles. Better Sams. They have way more manpower. They create more scientific research. They're on track to take over us economically.

You: But why do you believe them?

they steal other people's ideas and resell them for cheap, don't they?

they restrict what their people know, have a dictator, restrict freedom?

is that what we mean by more advanced?

    Method doesn't matter.

Especially if China became more advanced because of them.

Anyone under 30 should really be learning Mandarin. Not for potential sudden takeovers or anything that dramatic, but just because it's obvious.

Forget the dialects, stick to the language of the masses and their Govt. Mandarin is slightly easier to learn than Cantonese et al, also.

As for where best to learn, I'd say China.

But Americans are teaching themselves, and taking it to the streets of Chinatown. It can be done!

    project much?

euros have history when it comes to biological warfare, so lets not judge others intentions on the premise of what we would do..

In 1998 South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission held hearings investigating activities of the apartheid-era government. Toward the end of the hearings, the Commission looked into the apartheid regime's Chemical and Biological Warfare (CBW) program and allegations that it developed a sterility vaccine to use on black South Africans, employed toxic and chemical poison weapons for political asssassination, and in the late 1970s provided anthrax and cholera to Rhodesian troops for use against guerrilla rebels in their war to overthrow Rhodesia's white minority rule. https://www.pbs.org/
