ONLY people with a Work Visa or a Green Card will be allowed to register to vote, if this bill becomes law.

deal with the facts, not fantasy.

I get this is just for local elections, but I agree with the right on this one, only Americans allowed to vote - not people here legally that are not Americans

Since DiBlasio is leaving at the end of his term, and NYC is, already, and long has been, a Democratic Party lock, for city government, I don't see how it is pro-Party politics that would be motivating this move. I would assume that DiBlasio believes that this is the fair thing to do.

    There is always an exception.

IMO, it is not a good idea to have noncitizens voting because they will get the idea that they can vote in State and federal elections, which they can't do per the constitutions. In addition, in those States where non citizens can vote in local elections, ballots that contain State and federal offices could not contain local issues, such as school boards, where non citizens can vote. Therefore, major confusion is created because non citizens would be on the voting rolls as legitimately registered voters.

Some minor citizens pay taxes but they can't vote until they reach 18.

Immigrants might pay taxes but they shouldn't be able to vote until they become citizens.

It is confusing and I also thinks it contributes to divisiveness when one side is complaining saying that the other side is only allowing something so they get the votes.

The reality is our system isn't perfect and nobody is interested in changing it so we all hold our noses and just check some boxes. And, every 4 years or 8 years, they switch places and starting fighting amongst themselves again. It's a mess. I say we scrap the whole thing and just start over and this time we elect the people with ethics, values, decency, honesty, trustworthiness and intelligence. All others need not apply. ;-)

    Fair to whom ?

I have my opinion, but as I read more and more about this I’m not sure i have yet to see/read/hear a valid, justifiable reason to allow this. If you have one or have heard on I’m all ears.

Well the article didn't say 'illegals' - he is talking about green card holders and people with work authorizations. And they will have to register. So do you fear that illegals are going to voluntarily register, allowing the government to know that they are illegal?

Having said that, only citizens should be allowed to vote.

DeBlasio was talking about non-citizens streaming into our country voting who may or may not be nefarious people because he knows they vote for Democrats. Which in his mind is the main directive. That's why our country is such a mess now.

No, I have not considered the issue, itself, before checking out this thread, out of curiosity. My comment is specifically responding to the idea that DiBlasio is in favor of this, for strictly partisan reasons. The logic of that assumption, seems not to hold water. I was just saying that, regardless of the wisdom of his view, I see no reason to believe that his motivation is other than that HE feels it is the right thing to do.

I did see some "pro" arguments, in the thread. The one that comes to mind, is that non-citizens still pay taxes, and, "no taxation w/o representation." Do not take that, to mean that I believe it settles the argument; there are surely points to be made, on both sides (which is why I'm only commenting on what common sense seems to say about DiBlasio's reason for advocating the change).
