The Russian Collusion conspiracy theory actually is the birtherism of this age, only worse, because birtherism only attracted a small percentage of PUMA's and conservatives. So it never mattered. Politicians are incorrigible and will say whatever they can get away with, it's worked for the Clintons for decades, but the electorate has to become more politically sophisticated also. There is no good reason to support AOC or Bernie Sanders, for example, but millions do.
