Americans thought they voted out fascism in 2020.

Obama says internet, social media are threat to democracy - Vox

It is not the banks and corporations that dominate our politics and our lives.

Study: US is an oligarchy, not a democracy

It's people who spread subversive "misinformation" on the internet:
Real misinformation that doesn't threaten "democracy":

the internet is a tool, and yes it is good and bad, but it's true it's also a threat to democracy as it allow foreign government to spread propaganda anonymously

but it's only a threat if people like Trump use that propaganda and help spread it and people believe it

the anonymity of the internet is a threat because of bad foreign players, not sure how we deal with it, getting rid of anonymity of Americans is not a place I want to go

what would be best is if somehow we could identify propaganda from overseas while protecting anonymity in this country, but not sure how we do that

It's doesn't matter. Its up to you to decide what's true or false. Not the government or some Silicon Valley billionaire. I shouldn't have to explain to you why a Department of Truth threatens free speech.

I agree, but we need to be able to have all the facts to decide for ourselves and knowing if a post is political propaganda from overseas helps

I do not have the answers how to do this, but it's needed

we need to protect the free speech of Americans, not foreign government's ability to spread anonymous propaganda in our country

not of the internet, but maybe add to network packets from all traffic from outside the country so it can be identified as such

if china can block all outside network packets, we can add to them and pass them along

then social media sites could add to each post if it was international or an American that posted it

not sure why the right thinks we need to be like china

~if it's on the internet, it must be true~ Abe Lincoln

The idea of the government with their nose in this issue, should terrify anyone.....should...

what do you have against foreign network traffic being tagged as foreign?

I am not suggesting anything more than that, and I agree, Americans need to be careful what they believe, just cause it's on the internet, doesn't mean it is

I would like to be able to block foreign traffic from my home network, cell phone, maybe someday a car, ect....

an overseas hacker would be out of reach of the law, let consumers choose for themselves

Trump is still more democratic leader and he is better then Democrat party.
Democrat party advocate crime, racial and gender divide, racism, and unconstitutional progressive policies.
Dem party is a real threat to democracy.

All of your accusations against Blue apply to Red - some more - some less. A bit laughable when the Constitution and either of our two Clown Cars is mentioned the same sentence to be honest.

The US media ... television and newspapers ... are justifiably heavily criticized in terms of the form and type and also the content of their reports ... Keyword "fake news".
I mean that now in a completely neutral way, because regardless of whether you are politically left or right, a lot of BS is distributed in the media as news on both sides.
Many are disappointed with this and then they turn to social media as their news source ... and that is unfortunately dangerous. As much as the criticism of the traditional media is justified ... compared to the BS that is spread on social media, the traditional media are kindergarten!

But the really terrifying, bad and sad thing about it is how many people still believe this spiritual junk on social media to be true!
I mean, if the same BS content was reported on CNN, Fox News, ABC, CBS, NY Times, Washington Post, or whatever traditional media, a lot more people would turn their brains on beforehand and be a lot more skeptical than they are in social media!

A recognized psychologist once said that in the age of social media people are more and more inclined to believe that what corresponds to their foresight ... and are less and less inclined to be convinced otherwise, no matter what actual and real truth is!

Somehow this man is right in my opinion ...

Professor Jonathan Turley has been one of the most consistent free speech advocates in the country for the last few decades. He believes that the way the Biden administration is being set up will put the boot on the neck of free speech.

Most Democrats in Washington are favoring imposition of restricted free speech against dissenting opinions against The Establishment propagandist narrative.

Biden has now selected two top aides who favor censorship by The State.

"For those of us who have been critical of the growing anti-free speech movement in the Democratic Party, the Biden transition team just took an ominous turn."

"For a president-elect who just called for everyone to “hear each other,” he picked a top aide who wants to silence many. Since it would be difficult to select a more anti-free speech figure to address government media policy, one has to assume that Biden will continue the onslaught against this core freedom as president. This is not the first Biden aide to indicate a crackdown on free speech in the new Administration and Biden himself has called for greater censorship on the Internet."

Almost no one listens to our congressmen when they are actually "working" as opposed to campaigning their fluffy fake promises to keep their powerful seat in the oligarchy. We have become a nation of people who have the attention span of gnats when it comes to what political leaders are doing to us, instead of for us. After an election, people stop paying attention to what Congressmen actual do. This naive public trust will destroy democracy.

Yesterday's Senate Judiciary Hearing concerning social media censorship bias during the run up to the election was telling in the difference between Blue and Red.

Every Democrat Senator on the Judiciary want to have Twitter/Facebook silence more peoples' opinions. Every Republican Senator on the Judiciary want Twitter/Facebook to stop the political bias in their censorship and let everyone speak their mind at both ends of the political spectrum.

Nope, there is no evidence that red has anything to do with racism and support for unconstitutional policies as well as support for crime.
On the other hand Democrat party officially support racial and gender divide, as well as hate and criminal activity.
It is very well documented with numerous videos.
Also Dem party is proponent of unconstitutional policies and special privileges.
    Everything is on the book.

E.g. identity politics is an outright racism and sexism

As a foreigner, I have to admit that I find the American discussion of the constitutional right to freedom of expression versus censorship quite strange and sometimes even insane. And I find this righty vs. Lefty gibberish on the matter when one accuses the other of something.

From the foreigner's neutral standpoint, I can only advise and say to both: "Anyone who sits in a glass house shouldn't throw stones at others outside ... is not a good idea!"

If Trump says he wants to do censorship against fake news, then there is no criticism from the righty corner ... but when Biden speaks of the same censorship, then the outcry is great ... and vice versa as well that the outcry of lefties is big atTrump, but silence at Biden!

Yeah .. I watched a fair bit if it - the stuff coming out of the mouth of blue was disturbing - while Red happened to be defending freedom - in this instance.

Was reading about the stuff that our intelligence agencies are up to as per the Snowden revelations - Goblins full stop - a product of Red "Law and Order" mindlessness to the extreme.

It's an oligarchy. Blue (DINO's) have been pressing for totalitarianism for at least three decades. Red (RINO's) have failed to stand up and speak out, so they are just as complicit in contributing to the downfall of the nation.
