Hi, so I've joined a political forum, that's what people do right? When they've had somewhat of a political awakening and wish to converse with other redundant opinionated "surfers", is that the word? Surely not, it's way too old-fashioned, there's new words like "poster" or "avatar" or we could be really generous and call ourselves virtual activists, hypothetical dissidents, would-be socialists or radicals. Whatever your convictions, I wish to be fed. Hopefully there is a decent mix from around the world too? I'm 26, from England, and I write, kind of.

I read a lot, I get most of my political knowledge (if you can call it that) from people like Orwell, Hunter and Burrroughs, so suffice it to say my vision may be somewhat skewed, like say, a jackal on acid (that's me being generous again). That aside I have started reading more academic essays - one recently which has really induced me is Benazir Bhutto's Reconciliation. It deals which Islam's hijacking, the West's contradictions and double standards when "supporting democracy" and the challenges ahead for the Muslim world as well as a critique of the "Clash of Civilisations" theory.

I won't ramble on about myself any longer... here's to a landing of sorts. :peace:

Welcome. Nice that you read a lot that would put you way a head of some of the posters here. If you like a lot of racist,Muslim hating,Socialist, communist hating threads and posts then you have come to the right place. Seems to be mostly Americans on here with a few Brits and a few others from around the world as far as I can see.

Welcome to PF - and take note of what Philxx says (with due allowance for hyperbole). This is a largely American, and conservative, board, and there a few right wing Septics who make Thatcher the Milk Snatcher look like a 'make love, not war' hippie from the sixties (or seventies - whenever all that happened). But by and large, you will find a very sensible collection of people from a wide range of political spectra. And finally it is always promising to see another Brit (or Aussie) on here. I grew up in the UK, but have spent the last couple of years finishing my schooling in Australia, and have just started reading law at Sydney university. So I am a sort of pretend Aussie as well as being English. So welcome again, and I look forward to reading your opinions - you appear to be much better read, and much better informed, than me. :)

Thanks for the warm welcome, I have taken a while since introducing myself, mainly because the site went down. So I joined another one which looks a lot like this one. And well that was that. But that one seems to have dried up slightly temporarily, mainly down to Zionists and pro-lifers running out of things to say :)

    Thanks Again.

Cool Phil, I have read all those you mention except Burmese Days, it's on the list, at the moment Ilan Pappe and Noam Chomsky are taking up of my time. I watched "The Lady" too which I thought was a great film, and I was happy to see Aung San's victory recently.

Salutations to a fellow nun hunter!
