    https://www.cnn.com/2021/12/14/us/cornell-university-covid-cases/index.html

Looks like omicron is spreading much faster than thought. Cornell University has 900+ new cases just in the last week, the majority are from omicron. 97% of the students there are vaccinated.

In my view, this new variant will rip through the population very quickly. It's probably been in the US long before South Africa sounded the alarm on it. Will it be as deadly as previous variants? Not easy to tell, because a lot of people already have some sort of immunity, either from vaccinations or previous infections. We'll really have to wait for the data as to how it affects the elderly, non-vaccinated at risk pool.

This is going to be a hard winter....

Wow, it's like if a bunch of people get vaccinated... then the only people who will be left to get infected are those who are vaccinated. Thus meaning we have to look at the percentage of who get sick and were vaccinated, and compare it to the infected but unvaccinated population. Thus arriving at... unvaccinated as a percentage more likely to get sick than those that are vaccinated.

So? Viruses spread around all the time. But what IS interesting though is that "Delta" popped up after vaccinating older adults and now "Omicron" popped up after vaccinating younger adults (and children).

Thus, the vaccination-go-round efforts are NOT working. But hey, get a fourth jab of the same stuff! THAT'LL make covid disappear!!

Good. The faster the better (as far as herd immunity is concerned).

It won't be. Even by the method of counting everything under the sun as a covid death, there have been no deaths from "omicron".

Correct, AND even from their own innate immune systems... People seem to forget about that one.

    It's another nothingburger.

....... due to FJB's skyrocketing inflation, in which another round of it is going to hammer people hard come January. Hunker down people, another inflation hurricane has almost arrived on the consumer price end of things...

Yes, I am MUUUUUUUUCH more concerned about inflation (and being able to pay for food stuffs, heating, fuel, and etc) than I am about "omicron" or whatever latest Greek alphabet letter name "variant" the fear mongerers come up with next...

Where did you hear of the Pfizer protease inhibitor approval? I can't find anything about it.

In any case, you are making a good point mocking the "Thanks you Trump" threads for the vaccine FDA approvals. Of course, if this drug turns out to be good, it won't be Biden's doing, but rather a success of science.

I really wished all those people that said covid would disappear after Biden was elected were right. I really want the world to return to normal. Please do not tell me THIS is the new normal. I just can't accept that.

Except Delta originated in India, which wasn't vaccinated at the time.
And it appears Omicron originated in South Africa, which isn't vaccinated.
So how can vaccinated people be causing these mutations, when the people aren't vaccinated?

Delta "was first discovered" in India (which wasn't vaccinated at time of discovery), but the global vaccination program for older adults had already been underway for some time.

A portion of South Africa is vaccinated, and it was first discovered and largely spreading amongst vaccinated individuals. The timing also coincides with the global vaccination program for young adults & children.

The cause is mass vaccination in the middle of a "pandemic".

Why is this going to be a hard winter? The outcomes of this variant are almost universally benign. It seems to spread super fast, and it also looks like once you've had it you've developed the antibodies that fend of previous variants. So, a fast moving strain that inoculates the public against previous strains that actually does provide protection, and isn't simply an inhibitor, but actually works against COVID as what is normally known as vaccine level protection. How novel.....

As usual, conservatives celebrate too early with respect to the "benign" nature of omicron. Just like they claimed it was just like the flu in early 2020, and look what happened, 800,000 deaths later. Unfortunately, we don't know yet whether omicron is benign. In South Africa, hospitalizations associated with it are likely lower because 1) their average age of the population is younger, and it spreads through the young, socially active population first, and 2) estimated are that 90% of the population already had covid or were vaccinated, so they already have some immunity.

Even if it turns out to be milder, the rapid increase in cases will still mean that hospitals will be overwhelmed. This is not the time to let down your guard.

Whether omicron is benign or not, vaccines do not help. The question is why do you support that madness and dictatorial power grab?

I'm sure you can post to an actual study that supports your absurd assertion..... How many of these folks got Omicron again? Why should we trust just your word for it?

    Agree!

In reference to Delta, many below average intelligent posters believed that U.S. Delta stats......

    Hospitalization rate
    Hospitalization rate by age
Percent of hospitalized patients on ventilators/in ICUs
    Death rate
    Death rate by age
    and other stats

    .......would mirror UK’s Delta stats

    WRONG!

Question; Was Florida’s Delta Variant less deadly than original Covid, and other variants?

    Answer; NOPE

FACT; Prior to Florida’s first confirmed Delta Case, DeSantis’s Department of Health reported a Case Fatality Rate of 1.5%, today’s CFR, 1.7%, thus, less deadly?????

Source; DeSantis’ Department of Health, Covid Weekly Reports.

"Pfizer Says COVID-19 Pill Near 90% Protective Against Hospitalization, Death"

    https://www.usnews.com/news/world/a...d-19-pill-near-90-effective-in-final-analysis

"NEW YORK (Reuters) -Pfizer Inc on Tuesday said its antiviral COVID-19 pill showed near 90% efficacy in preventing hospitalizations and deaths in high-risk patients, and recent lab data suggests the drug retains its effectiveness against the fast spreading Omicron variant of the coronavirus."

Of course it is promising for Pfizer stock.
They need more money to buy mainstream media and congressmen from democrat party.

Reality is that there is absolutely no evidence that vaccine help to protect people from COVID.
