On a scale of 1 - 10, how 'intelligent' do you find the 'debating' at Politcal Forum? (With 10 being the highest accolade for intelligence) Genuinely curious how others find the discussions here, and where they'll pin their number on the scale.
I put ten, and I'm product of American public schooling system. Also slightly mentally handicap from lead poisioning.
5. This web site has a lot of posters who are intelligent, articulate, thoughtful, and objective. Unfortunately, it also has a great number of posters who are dim-witted, childish, foolish, biased, and who commit egregious spelling errors and grammatical errors. It's the yin and yang of the universe, I guess.
Pretty much my thoughts as well, but I went with a '3', as I have watched things deteriorate considerably over the past few years, to the point where it seems the "dim-witted, childish, foolish, biased" etc. far outnumber intelligent debaters now.
I voted for 3. Not because I think all the debate here is crap, but because most of it is just one side mindlessly blaming another side, usually to make themselves feel better. You know what I'm talking about, those posters whose posts consist mostly of bashing conservatives or bashing liberals. There are definitely people here who can actually have a conversation with facts and objectivity, but they are the minority. So, if I had to rate real intelligent debates when they happen, I'd give them an 8. Since I'm rating all the debate as a whole, I give it a three.
5 Over all it's about on par with any forum I've posted on. There are several posters from both sides the political spectrum that can articulate very well, though with very lengthy post that don't get much respect (views/reply).
Now; If the Mods and Admins would allow the posting of tasteful nearly-nude photos, hand in glove with the political discussions, then I might be tempted to raise my number from a 5 to a strong 8.
Oh! My word yes!!! There are members here whose ONLY posts are "libturds is dumbasses" I modded for a forum that had a rule against "offensive generalisations" and it was a pain to moderate this but it did stop the sort of "us versus them" idiocy that has infected this forum
LOL, sometimes you are just too funny. I do enjoy reading your posts. Between the racists, the blind partisanship, the entrenched self proclaimed intellectuals, and the just plain ill informed, I had to rate it a 3. Plenty of smart people on the forum but the stupidity sometimes drowns any real debate.
"3" seems a popular choice. That's the number I chose. Probably burn-out from being here four years. The loopiest place I know, Political Forum. I think I've heard every far-far-out opinion under the sun in this place. The loopiest, bizarrest, most incomprehensible things... I've heard here at Political Forum. Quite an education, lol.
I voted 3. It's the same boring, pathetic crap that gets repeated without end. The back and forth between the far right and the Obama/Democrat pseudo-left gets mind numbing rather quickly. And then, what's this? My god, a decent thread! Then the thread gets 3 replies and is quickly ignored. I think I'll leave soon, I'm not sure if I really even enjoy this place or what.
Some posters are uninformed.. Some are reasoned and well informed. Still others use their considerable intellect to crush other posters with a constant stream of insults. It doesn't have to be that way.
You are so right, and the only way to clean up this constant barrage of feckless sophomoric pabulum is to teach these liberals the facts of life and how and why to be patriotic Americans with a Conservative outlook on life.

This post is a perfect example of what is wrong with this forum. Reactionary scum like this makes my skin crawl.
There have been numerous threads on the topic of patriotism here and perhaps a debate on that specific topic is what is needed at this time to try and get people of all political persuasions to come to the debate table having the same respect for the nation that gave them the feedom(s) to engage in so much fun. When you see posters here sporting avatars that say Socialist, Red Republic and or displaying a hammer and sickle then you will know for sure that those people will have zero desire to be patriotic from an American standpoint.
A "3" for me also. We you use the words "intelligent" and "debating" in your question how could it be any higher? "Both "sides" are guilty of course. But I don't really come here for a intelligent debate. I come here to "take-a-pulse" on any given issue or policy but then I believe in a quote from one of Rome's greatest orators. “Orators are most vehement when their cause is weak” Marcus Tullius Cicero It helps me in judging which side is the weakest in any given thread.
