http://www.webmd.com/smoking-cessation/news/20121207/recreational-marijuana-health-effects#1 Recreational marijuana use does not lead to emphysema/COPD. In addition there are alternative methods of use that do not involve the lungs at all. Yes, I used to eat those "special" brownies too.
The Lungs are very sturdy and can with time clean out the ill effects of smoking.I learned that my sophomore year in High school in Biology class.Which was run in dire strictness by One tough Brother. Brother Adrian { Holy Cross Bros. }. A student raised his hand in class and asked about smoking and if a smoker is doomed because he smoked. The Brother said the lungs eventually clean themselves out and repair. Like other organs { Liver etc. }. But only in degree. That past a certain point the damage of smoking is not recoverable.John Wayne learned that lesson too late in life.He pretty m uch refused to stop smoking.Even the Pharmacies were instructed to not sell cigs to the Duke.In them days Big Movie stars didn't have entourages { steady group to watch out for their star }. A lot of actors in Hollywood died young due to being chain smokers. I remember well the Bridge/Cocktail parties my parents had.It was the In Thing to smoke { in the 50's and 60's }.
Philosophy and Theology are the root cause for Mankind. Man { and Woman } were not put on Earth to prove how well they could belt out a song or throw something { Baseball,Football ... shot put ? }. That is why we are witnessing such monsters in out midst. The Public School system does not teach Civics class let alone the Humanities. Todays kids are being weaned on a steady diet of junk food and poor education. All it takes for a Mother is a pencil and pad of paper to teach a child. Thanks to the Party of Drat { Democrats } we have an entire Society of near Illiterate little monsters running around.
I'm not against education. My earliest memory is of my mother teaching me how to read at the kitchen table. What I don't like is the idea of one even having a personal "philosophy" that is articulated. I think that kind of thing is best manifested in actions rather than made up beforehand. Thought and learning can help us to discover what our philosophy is when we reflect on what we've done but we must do something first to reflect on. Most rules for living are generally honored more in the breach than otherwise, I've found, as circumstances can be relied upon to do only one thing: change
To prove my gist about Philosophy I refer to Talk Radio's Dennis Prager. An Academic who relies heavily on Theology { was taught at a Brooklyn Yeshiva } and also the Humanities { Philosophy in particular }. He has every week an entire hour dedicated to Happiness. The Happiness Hour. And he's real quick to point out that to be\ Happy in life takes a lot of work. It's no piece of cake. I agree.I,Too,have Happiness as a key goal in Life. A Philosophy of Life,if you will. There is no point in Living Life for mere drudgery.Or to be henpecked. So one has to find ways to Live Life while maintaining a degree of Happiness. That means to adopt a Philosophy of life that includes Happiness as a key ingredient. Unless one is incapable of liking to be happy. Some Folk aren't. Some humans prefer to be miserable and may transpose their miserableness unto those in their orbit. Moriae Encomium " The chief happiness [for a man ] is to be what he is. " -- Desiderius Erasmus
Philosophy and Humor do not mix.Not even the Oscar Wilde version. " Life is far too important a thing ever to talk seriously about." -- Oscar Wilde
People aren't owed respect because of their age, accomplishments, position, etc. They have to earn it from each individual person they meet. Anyone who has to demand respect doesn't deserve it.
