Starting June 1, Crosses will be hung in all state authority buildings, schools and courts. Well good for them. Enough is enough! The State Premier Markus Soder said it is an important act towards maintaining their Bavarian identity and Christian values.

Bavaria's state premier, Markus Söder, recently said that crosses should be hung up in all public buildings in the southern German state, a step that he himself considers an important act toward maintaining Bavarian identity.

The measure will be implemented in all Bavarian state authority buildings, schools and courts starting from June 1.

Steal the crosses and burn them in a pyre. Easy enough problem to solve.

C'mon - you can be more creative than that. How 'bout starting another Thirty Years War over this, instead?

Religious wars are back in vogue, ya know....

Ordinarily I would agree with you, but the story's true.

If they start serving free Märzenbier I might have to pay 'em a visit...

I can't understand the people here, if they don't like Christian values, then why don't they move? They can go to China, Japan, India - even though I must admit those values infiltrated even them.

    OH NO!

If you want to know the real dark ages, then find out what was going on before Christianity? It's easy to imagine though if you consider that after 2,000 years of edifying we still have: Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria,Yemen ...

They have been in Syria. Oh that's right, the MSM hasn't told you that part now has it.

Actually there has been only one Christian theocracy, and it was the Byzantine Empire and it survived for 1,000 years. We should be so lucky. When it fell, it had more libraries than all of Europe, more educated people than all of Europe, and more universities than all of Europe.

They wrote in Classical Greek, ate on gold plates and gave us many of our laws and institutions - so don't knock it.

Built in 6th century and still standing.

I don't think you understand Bavarians very well.

Most of the world doesn't have the same belief that all religious institutionalization equates to a bureaucracy. Just another way in which we're exceptional.

...though maybe the French are with us on this matter.

That's nice, why do you want to shove it down peoples' throats?

I don't care how well I understand Bavarians. If someone puts god in your courthouse, throw him out, and throw the judges and cops out while you're at it.

A problem you share with most of our countrymen.

And if an American Communist tries to throw your judges and cops out...

If you think I'm wrong, make your case. Otherwise, I don't have any compunctions about following my own moral compass wherever it leads me.

    I don't think you're wrong, I think you're American.

Our political precepts and myths don't hold sway everywhere. We have a myth of non-identitarianism that most people don't. There are progressive Iranians on this forum, you can bet that they have some suppositions about what it is to be an Iranian that are exclusionary.

Catholicism and Bavaria are deeply intwined.

Very correct law. Bravo Bavarians. Who does not like it, can go to Pakistan or Somalia, for example.

The emphasis here is NOT on Christian, but on Bavarian and specifically by Mr. Soeder himself ... and that in turn seems ridiculous.

But no wonder, because he wants to follow his Messiah Franz Josef Strauss - see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franz_Josef_Strauss - and steal the right idiots from the AfD the voices.

In addition, he also wants to massively increase the powers of the Bavarian State Police and thus extremely restrict the civil rights ... things where even the righties in the United States would freak out:

Listening to phones, overwriting and spying and confiscating mail without concrete suspicion or judicial decision. It also empowers the police to more easily detain any citizen whom the authorities consider a terrorist or criminal predator. So people who the police might suspect a crime in the near future, but have not yet committed a crime. Since then, it is possible according to police task law to theoretically indefinitely detain people or to commit to wearing an electronic ankle bracelet.

But the opposition still announced to court here ... because against constitution.
