Because it is NOT legal here

They ship the “brides” offshore to marry

As the links that the “you Aussies is just bashing us Yanks” group have shown the incidents that are discovered are investigated by the AFP

I seem to remember reading that 16+ can get married, with parent consent. Yes, no?

It was an extension of a previous bill banning forced marriages under 18

But like all good functioning societies we stand firmly against thei happening at all and have commissioned the report as a roadmap to improve our actions in relation to this

Maybe we should teach young men that women aren't toys and teach our young women that their virginity is of great value.

Ohh thats right you guys are opposed to abstinence education..

You can't have it both ways. Teach kids it's ok to have sex. They'll get pregnant to which marriage to the biological father is the correct course of action.

And one you obviously expected a researched answer to.

You want to make the point then back it with citations

There is considerable research showing that abstinence only sex education is a hilariously ridiculous idea that only increases risk of STD transmission and unwanted pregnancy

Either you teach kids not to have sex or you deal with kids getting married, take your pick.

Yes the only way to ensure reproductive health is not to have sex until you are ready to reproduce.

I've said this before but the biggest problem is that our kids are not mentally ready to reproduce when their bodies are. We expect to little of them and they perform as expected.

That the girl is a Christian is not irrelevant, otherwise a Pakistani wouldn't have kidnapped her and forced her to marry him regardless of her age. Nor would the court have discarded the parents objections. I know kidnapping Christian Coptic girls is commonplace in Egypt to eliminate Christianity, and it has been going on forever - and it doesn't matter what government is in power.
    .
The only difference with the Muslim Brotherhood President Morsi, was the extent of the persecution. At the time Coptic Churches were being burned and destroyed, and it caused an international uproar. There are 18 million Copts in Egypt, and since they are the original inhabitants, they have no place to go to.

I always said Islam was stuck in the 7th century. I was wrong. Islam belongs in 5,000 B.C.

Shirley Temple was 16 when she married, and there was nothing unusual about it. My great grandmother was engaged at 14. There was a time when it was an economic necessity. So was early marriage worse than today, when they're jumping from one bed into another in college? I don't know, all I know is that today's standards are different and people like to judge things from their own standards.

It has to be atheistic by its official definition. The official definition being "unbiased by religion". But our belief system forms our values...a set of innate priorities of what is important...which creates our laws.
To be complete void of religious values, equals to atheistic values.
For instance, "do not covet" is clearly in the Bible. It is not a law. However a devout christian is less inclined to advocate for a law that siphons wealth from a rich person out of outrage. A secular individual might be outraged that such inequality exists, creating laws to take away from the wealthy for the benefit of the state.

Values from the majority shape our laws...and as overall belief systems change, our laws change.

The fact that Pakistani court has allowed a kidnapped Christian girl to be married by reason of her having had her first period is upsetting to us but that's the law. That is Pakistan's business, nor ours. In their eyes that's the way it should be ..... and who are we to criticize? I see no reason to believe that we are better.

Yes, you may consider that, did you miss this part?

But experts say that these most recent figures represent just the tip of the iceberg.

According to UNSW’s Youth Law Australia (YLA) director Matthew Keeley, children who are forced into child marriage are often too terrified to alert authorities or seek help, and so the numbers likely underestimate the true extent of the problem.

    Actually, no it's not:
It is a Sharia court that
is subjecting this child to sexual slavery.

We should be people of a higher ethical fiber! There is no honor in allowing minor children to be kidnapped and held in sexual slavery by members of a religious cult!

    speak for yourself!

    Actually
you are simply trying too hard to be argumentative!!!

I did not expect a researched answer. I actually thought you might simply know as you live in the area.

AGAIN IT WASN'T A POINT, IT WAS A QUESTION
