Hallucinations, false memories, lying, and delusion are all very good reasons for what he says he believes.

Do you have any evidence for that?

No, and that's kind of the problem, isn't it? We have no evidence at all. And none of the explanations I offerred are extraordinary in the least. It would only make sense to consider the much simpler, less extraordinary explanations for what he is saying, in lieu of even a shred of evidence.

What is his evidence? Do you even know?

Or do you dismiss it outright without knowing the first thing about his claims or history?

Does he have a history of making extraordinary claims or irrational statements wrt to any other issue?

I can point to dozens of former military and intelligence personnel who make similar claims. Are they all hallucinating? Do you suppose it is a conspiracy of death-bed confessions?

the half of canadians has no idea who is and the other half assumed he was dead... the military despised him when he was defense minister...

    Do you?

The fact that we don't have it at hand is HIS fault, not ours.

Apparently he does have a history if making outrageous claims, per a Canadian on this thread. But, even knowing nothing of his history, it is a fact that he is making an extraordinary claim without a shred of evidence. We have no reason whatsoever to believe such claims. But lying, halluctination, delusion, and false memories happen all the time. My money is on one of those explanations, and yours should be, too.

    Wow!!! Dozens!!! That's....not many.

Yes, it is likely they are all either lying, or they hallucinated , or they were fooled by an optical illusion, or they are delusional, or they have false memories.

I recall a UFO sighting that had my city in a panic, calls to the media described it as a large oval shaped ship the size of a football field glowing and twinkling, witnessess said it hovered then moved away at supersonic speed with no noise! ....LOL I knew the kid who built it, a 17 yr old physics whiz, a clear laundry bag with tinsel hanging from it, created lift by putting a candle on an aluminum pie plate hanging below it LOL, he had a great laugh over the "UFO" mystery he created...yeah people see exactly what they want to see with they're paranoid brains when there's a perfectly rational explanation...

Exactly. And objects in the sky, no matter where the observer is, lend themselves to optical illusion. For instance, if your brain thinks an object is frither away than it is, any movement of the object will appear to be much faster than it is in reality.

That post speaks to your obvious ignorance on the subject. No one gets excited about nothing but lights in the sky. It is a ludicrous claim.

Yes Dozens!!! If not more. In fact the original UFO organizations were started by former military and intel people.

Ed Ruppelt ran project Bluebook for the Air Force. He was a huge believer.

And Alan Hynek, who was chief scientist for Bluebook and assigned to debunk UFO reports, became a total convert and the biggest believer of them all.

You can't dismiss all of this with nothing but irrational denials.

Ed Mitchell, one of the men who walked on the moon, a Ph.D out of MIT, says he knows someone who has seen a live alien.

I just saw he died. Too bad. We had been in contact and I didn't know he died.

and witnesses were adamant as to what they saw was an alien craft, they saw what they wanted to see to fit their conclusion instead of questioning what it was ...this was back in the 70's when anything Roswell, alien abduction stories and government cover ups were the topic of the day...Paul Hellyers prime time actually...

Not sure what's more shocking the news that there are aliens or that Canada has a defense minister...

Of course they do, and have, many times. Also, I did not just mention lights. You can look at the post right above mine for an example of exactly what I am talking about.

I didn't deny that they believe it (except in cases wjere they are lying). Amd to call it irrational speaks to your bias, not mine. The reasons I listed are all perfectly rational, all actual phenomena, backed up by moutains of empirical evidence (compared to the zero evidence of these claims).

That's nice. Witnesses say a lot of things, many times false things, and many times they are simply mistaken or delusional.

That's why we turn to evidence.

I had the greatest science teacher back in the 8th grade who taught me something invaluable in science.... Observation- "Don't jump to conclusions about what you're observing, just make accurate descriptions of your observations"...in other words put aside your prejudiced conclusions of what you think you see instead be analytical, detached, methodical and logical

I researched the guy a couple years ago, and he isn't your general american kinda of politician. The guy is actually honest. Apparently you don't have the time to ascertain the character of the man.

I doubt any of what you assumed is involved with the man. One wonders why people just knee jerk as you did?

So, were the US Navy pilots that witnessed technology we don't have, as well as their instruments, on the aircraft and the ships, are they all in this group with the fellow in question? Since you know all, enlighten us.

because those who want to believe the incredible will jump to that conclusion and omit the rational explanations...a rational mind will look for the logical answer which will then be ignored by schlock media, tabloids and the wackos...the truth isn't very exciting or sell well...
