My benching rig whips up that little thing!

    5Ghz 2500K or 4.8Ghz 3570K.

I have the fastest E450 Based HTPC on the planet!
Can easily rebuild the 27th fastest quad core system on the planet and is in the top 100 for all desktop processors at HW BOT!

My scrap stomps your main rig!

Still that is unfair so yeah your daily driver is faster than mine because I choose to drive an old car! I keep the ferraris in the garage!

    Now that is hella fast.

Do you game with that rig at all, or is it just for a benchmarking hobby?

My daughter does when I am not using it for testing.

I don't let her use the 7850 GPU as it is used in a motherboard testbed.

Her setup uses an overclocked 456GTX with an overclocked 9800GT for physics.

WOW talk about memories. Played those and all the Jane's sims along with hex-based war games and racing sims. Just not much out there for PC's these days and afraid what is is going away. The flight sims had gotten just too detailed for me too. Had a X52 for flight and G25 for driving which is a great wheel. Recently bit the bullet and got an X-Box. Have a HOTAS for it although doesn't have near the buttons a PC HOTAS has. And got a wheel for driving which isn't as good as the G25............but, it's quick to start up and play casually which is all I do these days. No updates or graphic issues, heck it cost less than my last PC graphics card. Can get used games cheap. We'll see for a while if it really satisfies my gaming needs. I do wish there were so good hex based turn based strategic war games like on the PC and hope Ubisoft starts porting some more of their games over, I'd buy in a heart beat.

Yeah I got and actually did the first few tutorials and it looks interesting. Still not an Advanced Tactics or Panzer Command grand strategy. Been playing Endless Space on PC and THAT's a blast, it would be a good port. I really don't think PC gaming is going to survice and it will move to Adroid, and all my comments about XBOX apply there too. I have a tablet that I have a few strategy games, but most are pretty cartoonish. I hope the publishers start looking at Android devices too.

Yeah, Wow is just...meh anymore. They robbed the game of all the depth and uniqueness. It's basically Diablo III with mouselook now based on the way they redid the talents for the latest expansion. None of the design elements that bother me are due to the fact that the engine is 10 years old, they have to do with choices that didn't need to be made, but were made anyway, in the interest of making the game as easy and mind-numbingly simple as they can for the casual players(and I don't mean the people who only play for a few hours a week, I mean the people who probably don't even know how to shut down their computer). WoW is like the video game equivalent of those yellow "Something for Dummies" books. It's like cliff notes for cliff notes.

For anyone into the Hitman series, steam has a weekend sale going on for the newest one. Hitman: Absolution is 66% off on steam, 16.99 down from 49.99! great deal if you ask me.

I have a pretty nice rig a built a few months ago in preperation for Guild Wars 2 which was kind of a bust. Played practically every major MMO released in the last 10 years but now the only game I am focused on is League of Legends. Season 3 just started and Im trying to rank up.

I enjoy casual PC gaming on occasion - I'm not interested enough in games to spend 100s of dollars on all the latest games, computer equipment, etc. I no longer own any game consoles and only have a few PC games. I play Command and Conquer Generals online on occasion, or I'll play a FPS. I don't enjoy MMO type games and I'm a little disappointed that apparently the market is heading in this direction - I'd honestly rather play an arcade style-shooter than any of this "MMO" type stuff.

It is indeed. Last attempt under OpenSUSE + Wine just now, I saw the splash screen for a second or so, and then it quit again. :/ I think I have it up to date patch-wise.

And that is why I find little use for anything other than Windows (OSX for some) for home users that want to push a button and make it go. For office/professional apps and SOHO open source is great but for full unrestricted us it is not there yet.

Yep. Still, I even had a similar problem with it under Win 7 for some inexplicable reason. It wouldn't launch under Win 7 Pro 64-bit on the same hardware. I haven't tried that combo since then, though. I keep Windows installed under VirtualBox these days.

I really wish we could get more paid developers on the open source bandwagon. The hardware is not the issue nor are many of the operating systems (hell Unix has been here since the late 60s. The issue is the 800 pound gorilla.

I use to be a PC only gamer... until I bought my first XBOX 360. It just costs too much to continually upgrade a gaming box. Way cheaper to buy a console that will play everything released for it. I do have a Steam account though and have been buying old games on it like Borderlands and Fallout 3.

Yep if they and Matrix would port more games over to the Xbox I'd be buying them.

Yeah I had the same problem.. I loved the game and played it a lot, and still got crushed by everyone, even the computer opponent.

I'd click on my harvesters to start gathering crystals and start building a fifth one, and meanwhile at the same time a massive gigantic horde of bugs would arrive to destroy me.. I'd be like where the (*)(*)(*)(*) did they come from? We JUST started this game!

I set up game rooms for n00b/sucky players only and still I had about a 20% winning record.

Hm, I seldom upgrade my computer once I get one in good shape. Then again, I also don't buy very many new games, but rather prefer to dink around in older titles once in a while. Video games actually make for a great foreign language study aid if you can manage to procure them in a language of interest..

I like playing SC single-player, whether campaign or in a big FFA match against AIs. It helps when they're fighting each other as well as me :D
