I love dogs, but not like that. I feel like the reason love animals so much is that we superimpose our emotions onto them, thus we never feel like they don't want to be around them. Think about, when you want to see your dog, when you do, and he is wagging his tail, you assume he is happy to see you, but in reality he may just be bored or wants to go outside. But you will never know because he can't talk.

When people value animals as equal to human beings then it's mentally unhealthy in my very strong opinion.

Couldn't've put it better myself. I fondly remember the days when every dog knew its place. Ah, the nostalgia of it all!

That's why I like boxers. They were bred to be guard dogs, so they have little problem waiting around for something to do.

People are filling the voids in their lives with animals more and more, I feel.

I think it has to do with a decline in civilization and a break away from traditional family structures, as well as society being flipped on it's head.

I think you're right. I must admit that I'm quite surprised when I see someone who is obviously walking for pleasure/leisure who's without a dog - more often than not, dog walkers have 2 or 3. And they're nearly always women. What do we make of that? Is it an oestrogen thing or what? [IMG] And they've nearly all got fat bums too.

Like this? You should try it with your "K9", Mr. "Handler". It's great to allow them to really stretch out for as long as they, or you, can go. It's the only way I can keep up with mine.

And notice what she does of her own volition when I take her outside. She runs.

What is your aversion to running, exactly?

Forget it. You have a closed mind and I'm not gonna waste my time trying to change it.

Eeeks! I have heard of similar horrible stories... my imagination went to dark places.
But it raises a question: as a dog handler, what do you think of doggie seat belts or seat halters?
Would they be a help or a hindrance in the event of, say, a roll-over?

A neighbor of mine had a beautiful brindle/white boxer. I thought it was one of the most handsome dogs I ever saw.

Seat halters seem like a good idea, it also depends on the dog. One of my dogs sits in the backseat and he doesn't move while the car or truck is moving. He has defined his job as watching the traffic and he can't be distracted. He is on the job. Our lawmakers could take lessons from him.

I suspect the Court Martial did the trick without restraints having to be fitted to all the Land Rovers in the RAF. And in my 4 years I never heard of a roll-over; it takes quite a lot of ingenuity to roll a Land Rover. Actually in the event of one I'd imagine a dog would come off much better than a human bean!

That reminded me of when I was helping my son with his homework: he had to list various types of container, and suggested to me 'a baked bean can?' and quick as a flash I replied, 'And indeed frequently does . . . '
